Like in Culpeper, Va. Not interested in (or willing to pay for) a PI. Just your opinions on a VLF detector. Thanks for your help.

Explorer or E-trac.
It seems that the word M-i-n-e-l-a-b is banned on this forum. When I put that word in front of Explorer a message came up saying a word is banned, So I removed the word and it posted. Is that normal?

Any m-lab multi frequency unit....they cope well with high mineralisation.Whites top end detectors have one of the best ground tracking systems available with the ability to lock in a setting when the ground gets really tough.The mxt is designed to operate in minerals that contain gold nuggets and this is about as bad as ground gets.Good luck with whatever you choose.

I've used the MXT in the ground he's asking about and it is just as handicapped as most VLF machines are. The best machines are PIs. I know you didn't want to hear that, but its true. I saw some people doing ok with Fishers (like the 1270), but the problem is that bad signals are good targets and vice versa in that ground. That's why there are still relics in the ground there.

Yeah I know the PI's perform best in that ground. Most people don't know how bad it is. The FBS detectors do a little better than the VLF machines, but not much. Believe it or not, my Nautilus IIba found nice relics at good depth when everyone said it wouldn't. The trick was to keep the coil an inch or so above the ground. If you touched the ground with the coil, you got a major all metal buzz.

In my mineralized ground my Explorers didn't get the depth of Explorer users in other states. I now own a Sovereign GT and there must be something about BBS technology versus FBS in my soil because this is the deepest detector I've ever owned.

Think I'm finally home after a lot of years searching for my particular needs. Custom 1.5 lb lighter Sovereign GT (easy to do by just "building" lighter shaft) & SEF 12x10 as everyday coil. 8" Tornado (actually 7.25") as super heavy trash coil (Very deep & separates better than typical 8/9" true size coils). 13" Ultimate for large fields/beaches on certain days I want to grid faster than even the 12x10's nice improvement over stock for that. Stock 10" Tornado stays on water rig (stock shaft). ProPointer. Owned 15x12 & SunRay S-5 (5.5") at one time. Loaned a prior 13" Ultimate & SunRay S-12 (12.5").

Some Oldest Silver- 1835 Bust Dime, 1842 "O" Seated Dime, 1855 Seated Quarter, 1858 3 Cent Piece, 1891 Seated Dime, & another Seated Quarter too damaged to read date. Highest Value- 3 Cent Piece, Seated Quarter, & now 1921 F-12 Standing Liberty. Oldest Coin? Got to give large cents a good look & see. 2013 so far- 1 Seated Quarter, 1 Barber Quarter, 1 Standing Liberty, 2 Washingtons, 1 Barber Dime, 9 Mercs, 3 Rosies. 1 War Nickel. 19 silvers in total, & 1 1872 key date Indian, 2 Bufallos, 1 man's 14K gold medium sized ring & 1 gold chain, with possibility of few 8"+ deep mystery coins being Indians after cleaning.

What matters in life is the journey and not the desitination. How you handle that journey determines if you were a success, not so much what you achieved if and when you finally get there, especially if you made it by stepping on people along the way...
