Well tried the minelab today....well first off, it would have been nice if they would have put a snap on holster . Pain in the butt feeding it through the belt. Seems to go a little deeper than my Pro pointer...Don"t know why they didn"t make it louder(since I think you can turn off sound)....and I thought I could hear good?. besides those two things...not to bad.....I think I will stay with the pro pointer!....seems to just feel tougher !

That was my decision to Michael---stay with the Pro Pointer.

I have not used the MineLab pin pointer. I have heard various comments, some people like it, and
others say it's not nearly as good as the Pro Pointer.
I hope more people chime in on the new pin pointer. For the money I would hope they would have
put a deent product out.

Nice videos and informative. The Mine Lab looks like a good pointer. If you really
need that extra centimeter of depth and a brighter light then maybe its worth buying. My Garrett Propointer
does a good job, so untill it breaks down or I lose it, I won't be buying the Minelab pointer anytime soon.

That first video I think the Minelab air tests slightly deeper at it's highest sensitivity setting, but later in the thread he does an actual hunt and the Pro Pointer was deeper on targets in the ground. Very interesting videos to watch. And I'm still watching to see if others have different results than that. Maybe he got a less hot one?

Think I'm finally home after a lot of years searching for my particular needs. Custom 1.5 lb lighter :minelab:Sovereign GT (easy to do by just "building" lighter shaft) & SEF 12x10 as everyday coil. 8" Tornado (actually 7.25") as super heavy trash coil (Very deep & separates better than typical 8/9" true size coils). 13" Ultimate for large fields/beaches on certain days I want to grid faster than even the 12x10's nice improvement over stock for that. Stock 10" Tornado stays on water rig (stock shaft). :garrett: ProPointer. Owned 15x12 & SunRay S-5 (5.5") at one time. Loaned a prior 13" Ultimate & SunRay S-12 (12.5").

Some Oldest Silver- 1835 Bust Dime, 1842 "O" Seated Dime, 1855 Seated Quarter, 1858 3 Cent Piece, 1891 Seated Dime, & another Seated Quarter too damaged to read date. Highest Value- 3 Cent Piece, Seated Quarter, & now 1921 F-12 Standing Liberty. Oldest Coin? Got to give large cents a good look & see. 2013 so far- 1 Seated Quarter, 1 Barber Quarter, 1 Standing Liberty, 2 Washingtons, 1 Barber Dime, 9 Mercs, 3 Rosies. 1 War Nickel. 19 silvers in total, & 1 1872 key date Indian, 2 Bufallos, 1 man's 14K gold medium sized ring & 1 gold chain, with possibility of few 8"+ deep mystery coins being Indians after cleaning.

I have both and both pin-pointers and the Garrett is louder. As far as depth in an air test I find the ML is a little better but so much for air test. I don't think anyone will be disappointed with either. Shop around the prices are not much different. HH :minelab:

For a $169 dollars with it's Bells and whistles, I think I'll take a miss on the MineLab pointer
and stick with my Garrett Pro-pointer. Just my opinion but for what you get on the MineLab
pointer it seems a weee bit ver priced.

Just ordered me the Minelab one. I used my friends and I liked it. I do have a Garrett, but lately it has been going bonkers, falsing everywhere, even in the air. Today I literally walked off the farm field I was detecting because it wouldn't work correctly.

I've dropped my Pro Pointer hard on the cement at least three times and it's still working just like new. I really thought I would have broke it by doing that (I had a dumb place I kept it in my garage that often had me clumsy getting it and my holster off a high shelf).

One time the speaker did get a little less loud but found out it was dirt in the speaker slits. A little picking at it with a toothpick real careful like and a quick rinse under water (have to be fast, because the speaker hole ain't waterproof) and it was fine again. I think the volume also gets low when the battery is near dead if I remember right, but the battery lasts for almost a year for me.

This ain't addressed to you but rather to others who might be doing this below. Just a word of warning to people...

I'm thinking some of the people having instability issues with it might be pushing it hard into the dirt to try to get the signal and that's causing the coil windings to warp out of shape inside the shaft. Coil winding alignment is critical for stable performance on a coil. People might be pushing so hard often with it digging around in holes that over time the windings get out of place, as I don't think the windings are encased in epoxy like they are on most coils to prevent such a thing.

Also, without the windings inside of epoxy, tempertures can cause them to warp out of alignment on say a really hot day. I noticed a few weeks back that it was very hot in my garage and the Pro Pointer felt hot in my hand when I got it out of there. I turned it on in my backyard and it took only a short amount of time for it to start falsing, like it will do if left on for long periods of time as people know. I read that when it's left on a long time the capacitors warm up and cause the drift/instability, so I suspect it being hot in my garage had already pushed it close to that point so when it was turned out it didn't take long to start falsing. Like maybe 30 seconds or so.

So on colder days you should get longer run time before it becomes unstable, but I keep mine turned off every time I put it down while mucking around in the hole so no worries there for me. I don't like leaving it on while it's on the ground just to save battery life, so rarely do I do that unless I know I'll need it in only a few more seconds again.

Point being that I'd tell people to be safe and not be putting force on the tip pushing it hard into a hole. That's not going to give it more depth and might cause performance issues down the road. Besides, if you push hard on the tip it'll falsely sound off anyway, so that's why it shouldn't be done anyway because how do you know if you got a false hit or the real thing? Far better to super tune when you can't hear the target.

Dont know about performance' , have had three Garrett now, but a brighter light and non snap hoop sounds good to me, I never use the Garrett holder because even with the snap and velcro Id find it falling off my belt at times. Maybe I put it in the wrong spot in relation to my leg. I always thought the lite for finding stuff was too low- I do use the light to confirm the unit is on , when my hearing is acting up or there is too much background noise. CO
