AT PRO TEST CHALLENGE TO DIG OR NOT DIG BY VDI NUMBERS ALONE..

One of the biggest dangers ive seen in detecting is those who rely on vdi numbers to much to base a dig or no dig decision. Take the test and let me know how you do...video: https://youtu.be/_-I0vLwubSM

The last target in the video is the only one I called wrong based on a combination of VID you called out and audio from the ATP. If I was using PRO ZERO and full iron audio + working the coil back to the toe I think that one would have been a simple no dig also. What were your full settings for the video? My ATP will do a lot better than that working the center of the DD coil.

pro zero disc was at 33 iron audio off and had the machine turned down sens wise to about halfway as the emi in my yard is killer. If you got all but one then your a very experienced at user. So you got the trime too? That was a tuff one.

I have been detecting for about 7 years now and hunt 6 to 10 hrs. a week weather permitting and have used the ATP for about 60% of my detecting for the past 3 years so you could say I have the bug LOL. The most important thing I learned early into this was, when dealing with shallow targets is to listen and not look because the numbers have always jumped on all my machines when dealing with very shallow targets and a DD coil. Working the center of the coil and going to the toe or heal of the coil along with the fact I rarely have iron audio off and never use any discrimination so I can tell what my machines are telling me has helped a lot over the years. I basically cheated your test by going more off the sound than the numbers to be honest here. None of this means my ability's or technique is better than anyone else here so don't get me wrong when I say I listened a lot to old school detectorist's and not the metal detector itself when first learning how to do this. I cant speak for all brands as I have only owned the F-2, F-4, F-75 and ATP but on all of them, I used what is between the headphones for my discrimination 90% of the time. Bells and whistles are great when needed but learning the language is where it is at in my opinion. Not trying to knock what you are doing here but this is what works for me.

No your inot knocking what I'm doing , I don't use the pro anymore for relics .. My relic detector is a deus and I hunt with the remote in my pocket no numbers and no screen just tones. I did hunt with the remote at first and some months back me and my partner said we don't need the screen or numbers as the tonal responces are so nuanced they give you all the info you need to dig or not dig. I was just showing the test to show those who rely on vdi numbers alone are making a big mistake. Of course some guys want a easy life and all that so I understand that part of it.

My relic detector is a deus and I hunt with the remote in my pocket no numbers and no screen just tones.

That's exactly how the Deus was designed to be used. Prior to 2011 the Deus used a magnet to mount the control box to the shaft. it was a temporary thing that allowed the user to set up a program or make changes, then the control box would go into a pocket or a case for the rest of the hunt. However it seems that many preferred hunting with the box on the shaft, which constantly got knocked off because the magnet wasn't strong enough to hold it on during a good day's swinging in the woods and fields. Eventually they went with the more permanent mount.

Getting back to your original point though, YES, tones before numbers.

Just watched your video with the ctx. you are so comical. turn the sensitivity down so the machine isnt going nuts. If ya want to learn how to use it watch diggs4ever. I will be giving tips all week. Nothing worse then seeing someone mislead people. So again swing a little faster and make the machine stable not bouncing all over from EMI. No wonder you disable comments on your channel you know your gonna get a huge backlash from the pros. I own a deus it has its palce but in no way is it the machine the ctx is. Ill take the taster choice challange with anyone. like I said if you want to see real live digs and what the ctx is capible of watch my channel. you will learn a few things in the process

Which video are you talking about? I don't want to learn anymore about the ctx , I relic hunt and the deus (TO ME) outperforms it in that environment. The weight alone is why I wouldn't use it for relics no benefit it can give on relics that the deus cant do. Watch my channel and you will see real live digs of the deus and what its capable of and how a pro uses it , notice the finds... This is about a at pro thread if you want to talk about a ctx go start a thread about it. I like that comment about the pros you made ! I will have a video up in a little while with a gold earring , ctx , etrac wouldn't touch it but guess what the deus smacks it. I tested the machine FROM a relic stand point as I relic hunt and all that great id business well really don't matter to much in my game. I'm wondering which video your complaing about though? If its the new video the other pros over on the other forum didn't complain about it ,they said hey try it like this ....One someone doesn't do exactly what you think is right or the way to do it , then you say they are misleading people..... START you a thread and show us the correct way then!
