Bryce's Explorer Program

New to this site so apologize if this has been asked before. I have read a number of messages where people talk about using Bryce's new program. Is there somewhere in this site where programs for different detectors are listed. Like to try different programs to see how they react in my area and would like to read about some.

Thanks for the time in reading this at general message to all finders, some great stuff out there, wish I lived on the East Coast, seems that is where all the old stuff is being found.

Bryce's program is explained in Any Sabich's book.

Yes it is,but I think Bryce also advised there were some discrepancies in the setting numbers listed in the book ??
I think the book had some settings maxed out when they should have been 7 or 8 or something like that.
The answers are in these forum's threads I'm sure.

Here are the exact settings I run on my SE.

These settings do work for many but they also take some getting used to...so don't get frustrated if you choose to try them..

Conductive sounds
Gain-10
variability-10
Limits-10
Max limits-10
Fast-Off
Deep-Off
Sensitivity-Semi auto 26 (manual 26 if the ground is clean enough)
Iron mask-22 -6 ON THE EXPLORER 2
Theshold barely audible
Everything else stock preset

The 3 keys for me which make these settings effective for deep park silver at "hunted out" sites are the following...

1) high gain which allows deep silver chirps to be heard

2) Semi auto sensitivity at 26 which makes the SE very stable while still running the high gain setting I prefer. Because of this..the SE has no problems hitting 8" to 10" coins. If the ground is clean and you don't seem to get the depth you need.....give manual 26 a shot.

3) Iron mask set at -22. this is a precise setting for me that I never vary from. 1 setting higher....and deep iron starts to mimick deep silver hits...hence some falsing. Also at this -22 setting... I have no problems hitting the same 8" to 10" deep coins even while the SE may be nulling....which is very important.

IMPORTANT: Please be aware you will hear some falsing and it will be up to you to discern between falsing and deep coin hits. The semi auto sensitivity does control the falsing quite a bit...but you might still hear some.

IMPORTANT: Please have the confidence to know that if you are going slow enough through iron...that your machine will still let a nice deep coin hit signal through the nulling threshold.

Iron Mask numbers are different ... 22 on the Explorer SE .. equates to -6 on the Explorer II.

Hi... I hunt in the smartscreen.

I would recommend hunting in the factory settings for some time before changing any settings.

Once you have put some time on the machine I would leave it in the smartscreen no matter what settings changes you make.

Good luck..and take care.

Hey Bryce, would you still run this program - say if you were going to a new site, not necessarily a hunted out park for deep silver!
I haven't learned all the tech stuff on the machine yet to make any educated change to the numbers ( is there a more general set of numbers you could run as a general rule of thumb ! running those #s would it be running to hot for a new site?
Thanks David

Bryce, What is the advantage to the smart screen. I have been hunt with my SE Pro for the last year with numbers but after some reading concerned I should switch???

There is just so much more usable information provided by the smartscreen as compared to "flashing numbers" IMHO.

Most of my best silver coin finds have come when the cursor dances and flutters along the top right 50% horizontal edge of the screen,,,,then moves towards the top right corner.

When it does the dance...then flutters and stays towards the top left center where my iron mask is set at...it is usually junk or iron.

If you spend your time watching for that textbook hit where the cursor will peg somewhere in the top right corner....you are gonna' be very bored and very disappointed. Most of those types of hits disappeared from sites nearly 10 years ago.

On a deep Injun the Explorers can do an unmistakabale "stairway walk" that definitely helps ID them. This is a perfect example of whre flashing numbers on a digital screen are worthless to me.

On many indian head hits the cursor will start on the right edge about 50% of the way down...then dance or walk "up the stairs" to the left.

Regardless of what your settings are or where the gain, sensitivity, etc. are set at...the cursor wll not peg and stay anywhere UNLESS you have run accross a "textbook" hit...and again...those are few and far between unless it's shallow clad.

You will begin to see a pattern form with cursor movement over deep coins and junk only after you have spent a lot of time learning the explorer language. If you take the needed time to learn what it's saying though...you will be justly rewared.

The other side to this is...if you have learned the machine in digital mode and are happy with your finds....then why switch?

If what you are doing is working for you...keep on doing it.

We all have out own preference as to settings and as to what works for us.

I've just picked up the hobby again. Trying to clear the cobwebs of my memory & get my skills back. Problem is it's been a few years & my Explorer XS is not talked about any more.

Question is how different are the newer models the Pro, 2, etc.? Can I use the advise on these current posts? If anyone has some good program settings for my model, please share.
