07/14 Yard hunting

We'll I'm very happy that I didn't jinx myself talking about hopefully posting finds from this weekends hunt. We drove to a few new towns hoping to find some unhunted properties and we were in luck. The very first yard of the day proved to be the best. It averaged just below 100 degrees today and the ground was still very dry. We were lucky to get permission at the very first place that caught both of our eyes. The first yard ended up producing 3 mercs, two barber dimes and a buffalo nickel. My buddy Greg found a 42 merc and a 36 buff there. The next few houses showed signs of some serious fill dirt then Greg pulled an 01 injun from the last house and we called it a day. I noticed that I slightly scraped the 05 barber reverse which was not bad for as difficult as the digging was. I thought I had found a rare error coin, the 1918 merc (with SPOKES), but it looks allot more like some kid got bored and redesigned it 90 some years ago. I'm still hoping that we get some rain sometime soon but I'm trying to make the best of it. Still beats ice and snow. Thanks, and I hope everyone can get out to dig soon, JJ

"Metal detecting is an escape for me and allows me to find some much needed peace and solace.
Being able to clear my head...even if only for that short while...is much more meaningful than any amount of finds that end up in my pouch"

Thanks Mike. The 10x12 SEF is an absolute workhorse, even in the dry ground. His DFX with the very respectable D2 coil was really struggling to reach out and touch the deep ones without ground moisture. JJ
