Found William at my Reale spot Sunday + "whatzit"

After finding that nice 2 Reale last Sunday, I HAD to get back there first chance and poke some more. About 15 min after starting I got a nice signal near the edge of a fallen tree. Only about 2 inches down - a WILLIAM copper !! I could tell even through the dirt that it was in decent shape. I've only ever found one other and the only thing that was visible were the first three letters of William (GVI). The coin cleaned up beautiful for a copper (from Connecticut soil).
The date appears to be 1701 or 1702 (the last # looks like a "1" but it's slanted. Also the "0" looks like it's struck over a "1".
I found another copper but it's toasted. Also a musket ball, a button, key and buffalo nickel in the same hole, and a copper ring.
The last item I need help with. It's about 2+1/2 in by 3+1/2 in and marked "PATD MARCH 2, 1875". Any ideas?
Thanks for sharing. Bruce

Thanks for the feedback all!
BTW the date IS 1701 - I was informed by an authority that 1701 was the last year for this type.
