With the amount of electronics inside of that control box it would be extremely difficult to make it any smaller. Until such time as electronic that are used in the Excalibur can be made even smaller they will have to continue using the same housing.

How many hours do you want a battery to supply enough power to operate the machine? It could be made smaller then the number of hours of detecting on a charge would drastically decrease.

I put my Xcal on a straight shaft and at 76 years of age I can still swing it for 6 to 8 hours or until the heat kicks my backside.
