My old NY Excal is gone the way of all mechanical devices with time and lots of use (and perhaps some abuse!!).

Splicing the coil cable worked beautifully!! The Sweet little butterfly coil worked like a charm!!

Now all I needed was a connector to allow me to switch coils!!

Double and triple checked all wire connections and found all work flawless!!

Power on, a flash of light, a puff of smoke and I can never hunt with the old girl again!!

There is a great temptation to bury the her at sea, but she will likely just end up in the land of departed detectors and sweet memories.

Any of our Friends or Fellow Hunters along the Connecticut shore that wish to view the remains can contact me for calling hours.

Thanks all for your advice and your generosity in shareing tips along the way.

One Sad Old Ex Excal Owner,

CJ

I would love to have it for parts and experiments that I do. Let me know if you want to get rid of it.
Thanks, John

CJ,

It is easy to make a mistake on wireing M&F connectors. My condolances.

Well you might get a few bucks selling whats left for parts. Somebody out there probley needs the housing to repair a damaged one or repair a damaged handle.

In testing all the soldered connections I found not one mistake.

The cable had been spliced (the Excal performed perfectly) and I removed the splice and installed the connector exactly as the wiring was spliced.

A post-mortum continuity test revealed nothing, but when I pulled the circuit board there was no mistaking the destruction.

I checked for shorts between the cables wire ends and their terminals--nada!

No moisture in the machine as I hadn't used it in the water.

The old NY Excal was a great little machine for a long time.

Another one of life's mysteries,

CJ

It's almost as if it was set to self destruct.

Thank you for your kindness Jim, but the old girl has moved on to a kind hunter who will keep as much of her in service as possible.
