Has anyone tried vacuum sealing their Garrett ProPointer to make it waterproof?

I have seen the suggestions on using silicone, shoe goop, etc. and I have watched many videos showing this does work. However, I do not want to void my warranty & plan to use it mostly on land... but do plan to occassionally use it underwater (in creeks and rivers) to depths of up to 3 feet. I know some suggest using a waterproof baggie sold at dive shops (for underwater cameras, etc) but if sealing it with a food vacuum packager would actually work for short term use, then I would like to know.

Anyone have actual experience with waterproofing the ProPointer this way?

Thanks stumppass ... I like it. Guess that it would even float? Going to give it try but may add a 'thether' outside the wrapping to keep it from getting downsteam in a hurry. First time I do it I may double up on the wrap just to be on the safe side. Great photo!

I tried mine with the Food Saver and seemed like a good idea at the time, but when you
turn it on the vacuum will prevent it from turning off. Maybe I'll try it again on the lowest
vacuum setting.

That is great until the bag gets a pinhole, then your screwged!!!

I'm not so sure. With the vacuum bag you should be able to tell if the seal has failed as the Pro Pointer will easily move. Also, the Pro Pointer is somewhat water resistant on its own. I clean them by submerging in shallow water all the time, and have not a problem yet. I did have the buzzer portion fail on one, but that was from a 5' fall to the pavement.

Has anyone by any chance called Garrett directly and asked if they had any recomendations that wouldn't void their waranty?? Just curious

I would think a double bagged condom might do it with a rubber ring on the top but you might get a little weird look from people..i know they did that with rifles and worked...no french ticklers or you really will get some weird looks...

All you have to do to make the ProPointer waterproof is take some hot glue and glue over the speaker hole and let dry!! Get the glue gun real close and force glue into holes and build it up! Then if you need to send it back the glue comes off pretty easy!!!

You put hotglue in the holes, I think you're not getting it out too easily...also my damage the speaker...
Marine Silicon is much safer...
