Open up your control box by removing the screws located on each side of the coil
connector.. The whole front control panel will slide out with the circuit board attached..
Its going to take a little patience to get the board out of the housing.. Try removing a
knob wrap tape around it to protect it, GENTLY pull with a pair of pliers while pushing
GENTLY on the coil connector jack. Dont get in a hurry . You can also stick a
headphone plug in the jack & GENTLY pull on it to help work it free.. Once you have it
free, slide the circuit board out of the housing. You will see the battery wire is connected
to the housing & the circuit board .. Note the location & orientation of the connection on
the circuit board.. Unplug the connector from the circuit board by releasing the latch &
pulling GENTLY.Now move the housing aside.. Now ,if your Sovereign has a silver
foil shield installed you will need to remove it to get more room . Do this by cutting the
tape that attaches it. Use an exacto knife or other suitable tool. Do not try to just pull the
tape off as this will damage the shield..Slip the paperclip with wire attached off of the
shield & remove shield.

Sven, I thank you , glad you replied.
I will pursue this tomorrow with caution. Q: I understand that the circuit board is extremely sensitive to possible static discharge damage, is this correct? When I see access the AM/Disc toggle switch is there any precautions I need to take to protect the electronics? Thx again Don

You could wear a grounding wrist strap if its very dry in your work area and or standing on a concrete floor.
You should be OK. Just want to static away from the PCB.

Thanks again Sven, I was able to access the switch connections without having to remove the foil shield. I deleted the operation of the panel switch and installed a female jack in the rear of the housing. Installed a trigger switch in the shaft forward of the grip which functions as the original. The trigger switch has a lead coming out of the shaft just below the grip with the male plug installed. I can now use the control box either mounted under the elbow (direct plug in) for land use or place the control box in a weatherproof backpack for water use (adding an extension lead)... With the Detech 10X12 SEF coil the package weighs 4lbs 4oz (no meter) but as I am mounting the box under the elbow it is nearly a perfect balance at the grip... With the backpack box mount I install a bent down piece (about 45 degrees) of EMT slotted into the rear of the shaft. This has some lead counter weights at the furthermost rear end and provides a perfect balance at the grip. This brings my total arm load down about 1 lb. Should prove to be a comfortable package in the field.
