Hello all,

I'm contemplating buying a CZ3D now after watching Bill_S's videos and the one thing I can't seem to find is a video on how fast it recovers between iron and a good target. I currently use a AT-Pro and it is very fast on recovery, but the problem with the AT-Pro is...if I wanna get all the older pennies, etc(non-silver) I have to run at zero discrim, in Pro mode with Iron audio off. You can hear everything, low tones 1-40, medium tones 40-75 and high tones 75-99. Mostly you hear ALOT of low tones from nails, etc in the parks around here. It's a constant growling. if you switch Iron Audio on with zero discrim, the low tones go away, but it's replaced with medium tones.

I guess my questions then are, how fast can the CZ3D recover in iron infested ground. will I miss silver from iron nulling? I know if you set the discrim too high I'll miss gold correct?

I done a quick video for you. The sound seems to be a little off but you can get the idea. It will false high tone on nails sometimes too. You can tell them because they will pinpoint off center a lot of times.

Looks like the CZ3D does good if you slow sweep, which is what I do most of the time with the AT-Pro anyway.

If your in Georgia going on your user name the cz's work really well I had a at pro and the cz seems to have a lot faster recovery time in our soil in Georgia. I always use a slow to medium sweep speed according to the area I'm in if I am hunting for relics or a old homesite I go slow, if I'm in a newer school yard I sweep at a medium speed. These cz's are the easiest and most efficient detectors I've ever used, I just seem to find better targets with them and ninety percent less junk.

I'm a Georgia boy transplanted in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Most of the OLD parks here have alot of nails, etc. In the old days people just buried their trash in the woods, shacks burned down, etc.

I can run the AT-Pro in some parks here and the Iron Audio is a constant growl. If I go SLOW i can still pick out targets, unfortunately most of the parks here have been hit HARD. It's a combination of depth and luckily getting your coil over a coin at the right angle sometimes. I have no complaints about my AT-Pro other than running in pro mode, zero discrimination with Iron audio off can drive some folks nuts from the bombardment of sound. You hear everything, and I mean everything. Low, medium and high tones. Iron nails can fool you, but I've learned how to tell if it's a nail or good target.

I don't run discrimination as I've found that I've missed old pennies and nickels due to the amount of iron in the ground and the metal composition of the coins. My AT-Pro is the USA version so it's not really tuned to Canadian or British coinage. Unlike American pennies, which are mostly copper even back to the late 1770's, Canadian old pennies are either copper or bronze. And bronze is a different range on the VDI. Between the 1900's and the 1960's I get 3 different ranges for Canadian Pennies.

Old Large cents: 65-75
Bronze pennies: 63-71
Copper Pennies: 75-83
Modern crud pennies sound like garbage. And the VDI either rings 81-83 or jummps all over, depending on how corroded the coin is.

The sound and simplicity of the CZ-3D has me captivated. And the plus side is it can handle the black sand beaches here in the surf. The AT-Pro goes NUTS!

My CZ5 never comes out of zero disc....I want to hear the iron and pick through it for the high tone hits. If you have never hunted with a CZ before, you have to sweep them slow to get max depth out of them. Hit the signal 90 degrees from the original hit and if it hits again you likely have a good target.
Square nails will disappear when you check it from different angles. By running zero disc you can hear the iron grunt from a deep square nail and not be fooled by it like you might be if you had iron disc'ed out and it was hitting high tone. This will save you from digging a ton of those old deep square nails.
Definitely buy the 5 inch coil for your CZ....it is super deep on a CZ detector.....as deep as the 8 inch coil and just a coin killer in trashy parks and lawns. I have dug 8 inch deep silver dimes with my 5 inch coil and still had a solid loud hit. I think you will see the CZ is gonna outclass the Garrett detector
in every way.... and this is with 20 year old technology vs Garretts latest and greatest ??? detector. I'd like to hear your thoughts when you get to compare the CZ and garrett detectors. I'm thinking the Garrett just might be up for sale soon....

joedirt_1 is absolutely right you won't want to have nothing but a cz in your hand unless it's raining or your shallow water hunting which is the only thing you would want the at pro for. I will not ever hunt with nothing but a cz from now on they just get the job done for me and they go super deep!! I have a cz-5 and cz-3d and it's a really hard choice between the two when I get ready to go hunting so I always bring both with me! I keep the 8" coil on the cz-5 and the 10-1/2" coil on the 3d. I seen you put a ad up in the classifieds have you had any bites yet? As far as the rusty nails you will dig a few when you first start using it but after a while you will be able to tell just by the sound and like Joe said try it at different angles! When in doubt dig it out!! I also like to listen to the iron and run mine at zero discrimination.

No bites yet. Are the CZ coils waterproof? Or should I just use it in wet sand when the tide is out? My AT-Pro can't handle the wet sand here in Vancouver. Way too much black sand, you can't even manually GB/lower sensitivity to get it under control.. I've seen a raincover for the cz-3d for sale on ebay for like 15$+s/h. But I think I'm gonna get the chest mount kit.

Is the 10.5" coil worth the extra 1" depth versus weight?

I has the same problem with the AT-Pro and nails, it's just learning the sounds. I like the AT-Pro but I'm feeling information overload; watching Bill's videos on the CZ-3D shows that it's possible to hear those deep coins without a constant bombardment of iron signals.

TheGeorgiaCanuck, Yes, the CZ coils are waterproof. I have no beach hunting experience since I live in Illinois, but the CZ's work very well on a salt water beach from what I have read, just flip the toggle to the salt setting.
I bought the Fisher cordura pouch for hip mounting my CZ and just got the chest harness a few days ago to chest mount the detector and can tell you it works very well. It is a very comfortable set up and will make swinging the CZ for long hours easy.
The 10 1/2" coil will give you more than 1 inch extra depth for sure, but it also gives you greater coverage in those fields and old groves and it does a great job on deep coins on edge. If you hip or chest mount the detector you can swing the big coil all day with no fatigue.
I have never used a Garrett at pro but from the videos I have watched they are very noisey detectors. You will appreciate the CZ's for their quiet smooth operation and they go deeeeeep!....................HH
