What should I expect on a new CZ3D................

in terms of an air test on a current dime? Any air tests that I should perform when I get it? This will be a detector coming straight from Fisher....my guess they are being discontinued.... and I will be getting one of the last ones. I noticed that not many dealers have them on their websites. One fellow I know scared me by saying it's a piece of junk...because it's not a 1021 machine......... what ever that means.I have some faith in Fisher and I don't think they would selling them if they were poorly performing!! Hope I didn't make a mistake......anyone using the more recent CZ3d's ?? Or have any useful tips or comments regarding this matter? Thanx.

Seems to be a variance in depth via airtests on the unit mentioned....For what its worth most CZ's go deep in the ground where it counts...

I don't have a CZ3D but have two CZ6A's and a CZ20. A new machine with warranty, I wouldn't worry about it. Fisher / First Texas stand behind their products. If you ever have doubts or an issue, call them and talk about what you are experiencing with the detector.

On new or new to me detectors, I check that they detect a small steel nail (not zinc coated), a tab and coins. Get a nail, a nickle, a newer zinc clad penny, an older copper penny a dime and a quarter. If it identifies each correctly when swept over the center of the coil, I'd go hunt and learn the detector. Make sure it is set to accept the targets and not discriminate them out when checking.

I have trouble getting good air test results in my house. I need to get away from buildings with all the electronics and compact florescent bulbs to get consistent air tests, so I don't often air test. Like Dan said, a CZ works best when detecting metal in the ground.

Enjoy your new detector!

One person contacted me and claimed that I need to get 11" air test on a current issue U.S. dime on a new CZ3D. According to him some new CZ3D's are only getting 6" on the dime air test. Is this true...... can there really be such a variance?? Would the factory allow such a discrepancy
? Strange!!

I would say around 11" on a dime would be acceptable. Some will do 12" and yes I have heard about some only getting 6" or so. yes there can be such a variance. I know a guy who had First texas work on his and when he got it back it would only hit around 6" on a dime.

Hot and cold can vary significantly between two units that are both considered in spec by FT.

Unit to unit parity is not a hallmark of the cz-3d.
