Help-Using MXT e series for gold detecting

Hello I Have a MXT with a DD probe. Its like new as it has been sitting a while. I bought it for its flexible use but now I am going just for gold in Georgia. I have a few questions I would like answered if possible.

1. Will it signal small nuggets? If so how small?
2. I have the default coil I think it is the 9.5--would I need the smaller coil if so what do you recommend?
3. Will the dd probe pick up small nuggets?
4. Will this model be sufficient or do I need a Gold Master?

Any help or advice you can offer me would be appreciated

Thanks so much

What do you mean by DD probe? There is a small 4x6 DD coil that is pretty good for nugget hunting. The smaller the coil the more sensitive it will be on really small targets. The stock 950 coil is not an option for small nuggets unless your in australia and finding those really big gold boulders.

MXT Pro, 9.5" Stock, 5.3", Super 12", 10" D2, Sunray DX-1 pinpointer probe. North Central Missouri, USA.

Hi Greg, I used my MXT in Arizona with the 6x10 dd, it will pick up a nugget about the size of rice, but has to be close to coil. Put the MXT in hyper stat if it will take it, swing slow, if gold is there it will get it. Good luck Flintstone

I've used both the MXT and GMT extensively while gold prospecting.

1. Will it signal small nuggets? If so how small? You can hit small nuggets weighing only a few grains (480 grains per Troy ounce) with the MXT

2. I have the default coil I think it is the 9.5--would I need the smaller coil if so what do you recommend? The MXT normally comes with the 9.5" coil and MXT Pro with 12" coil. These are both concentric coils and are not the best coils for hunting small gold or gold in highly mineralized ground. Those coils do very well however, hunting large nuggets in tailing piles with moderate to low mineralization. For the smallest nuggets I highly recommend the 4" x 6" DD Shooter coil or if wanting to go something larger the 5" x 10" DD coil. Both DD coils will handle Georgia soil far better than the concentric coils.

3. Will the dd probe pick up small nuggets? I assume you mean the Shooter DD coil referred to above - Yes, it is the best choice for small nuggets with the MXT.

4. Will this model be sufficient or do I need a Gold Master? If flexibility is important, as you mentioned, you have the right detector. If you are willing to give up that flexibility for enhanced small gold capability, get the GMT with its own Shooter accessory coil.

You can find some MXT nugget detecting tips on my website HERE.

I've heard and seen the MXT pick up the tiniest pieces of gold nuggets. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it. I possibly would use the little 5.3" coil. There's many coils out there and each have their own purpose. HH. Nancy

the MXT's prospecting mode is my favourite, not just for nugget hunting but for woods is also great

Using: White's and Tesoro

As a past resident of Georgia, I'd have to agree with Steve on using the DD coils. Georgia isn't really known for large nuggets so the small 4x6 DD would be my first choice. If you're only going to be hunting nuggets then I'd go with the GMT. If you also want to hunt coins and relics then stick with the MXT.
