I'm going to be looking to buy a waterproof pinpointer.

I will be using it primarily in my fresh water hunting normally waist deep with snorkel, chest deep max.

I have trouble recovering targets when they are over 8 inches deep with a long handled sand scoop and I think a WP pinpointer might help.

Thinking about getting the Vibra probe 580.

I currently use the Garrett Pro Pointer on land.

Please chime in with your suggestions, recommendations and experiences.

I have recently bought a Vibra Tector 730 and hopefully today I will have a chance to try it out near the water on a salty beach. I chose it over VibraProbe for its longer reach and I would like to try it for snorkeling when the temperature allows I will share my impressions when I return home today. So far, the air tests look promising and I like the way it is built.

after coming to my favorite beach I have found out that it is high tide and the layer of sand is even thicker than last time. Even junk targes were rare, I could not find any non-iron target in the wet sand
Tomorrow I will try another beach and do some more testing. One thing is to be noticed, the Vibra Tector needs slight movement in order to detect a target, as far as I know the ProPoiner is a non-motion device. It is my first pinpointer, so I need to find the best way of using it first. So far I am glad that I chose this one over any other.

I had the Vibraprobe 580. It is a very nice pinpointer that is a PI unit. It detects targets deeper in the ground than air testing. So don't get upset by air tests. I would still have it except for one side effect I couldn't deal with. It interfered with my Sovereign. As soon as the 580 did the double vibe (meaning it was on) the Sovereign went nuts. So if you are using an Excal you might have the same problem. If you can deal with the interference you will have a wonderful pinpointer.

I believe the vibra probe is the only completely waterproof pinpointer. but I may be wrong. I hunt with a cz-20/21 and I use a vibra probe 560. I use the probe to locate targets in my sifter after retrieving them using the cz and scoop. It really makes a big differance in recovering the small stuff that is just about impossible to find without it, ie: small round split shot covered with algae, fish hook pcs. small stud earrings, etc.

I have had very good luck with mine. Batteries usually last a whole season, because the probe turns itself off if not being used. It does not have the depth that the garrett has, but it is waterproof and therefore the only probe that fits my criteria. Because it is a p.i. probe it will probably mess with your detector. I keep mine on my sifter which is tethered to my finds pouch so its 6 to 7 ft away and at that range does not affect my detector.

I think you may be right on that.

They seem to have three different models.

The 580, 730 and one other.

I guess if one wants a completely WP PP you have to choose between these three or get an older model made by the same Co.

Right now I'm using an ATPro in the water to chest high and a XT-705 at the shoreline and to knee high.

Interference, I may have to work around.

Now I have to decide which version to get.

I wish Garrett would make the Pro-Pointer submersible....man I love that pinpointer! I have used mine underwater by putting it in a heavy duty zip-lock bag, rolling it up to get all the air out, then sealing it. I then put alittle duct tape around the bag to keep it from unrolling....and duct tape the tip area so it can withstand being shoved into the sand and gravel underwater. I know it sounds real redneck like...but it works...I use mine underwater...you can feel the vibration just like a vibra-probe. If you bag ur probe....yooouu might be a redneck. Guilty....LOL!!
