here in the ozarks the beaches are rocks, not much sand. I was thinking something pointy.on the beach a relic shovel should work. In the water, some type of pointy scoop. any recommendations from the beach pros?TIA

There seems to be less of a problem for me to work a scoop down into stones when the leading edge (lip) is rounded.

I've tried both sharp pointed and rounded and so far prefer rounded.

A friend has a sharp pointed scoop that he welded a rod onto the lip to wedge into the rocks to prevent the pointy edge from kicking the scoop off to the side as those tend to do.

He told me it works great, but I haven't seen it in action.

Hope this helps,

CJ

I always dig a crater around the signal, by moving away the top rocks and stones. Then, there's just some sand and thin gravel left. The only problem is that the hole gets filled with water...
Filling the crater after I've dug up the usual rusty nail, is the final part of my hunt...

If not in the water a garden fork is best for very heavy stoned beaches
