Excalibur mounts - front vs back and side mount

Need advice on mounting Excalibur on the body for diving - snorkeling - wading / beach work.

Front mount is not very good for diving and beach. You can't see / bend or snorkel with it.
Side mount (under elbow) is same as long shaft mount?

There are few special mounts - including shaft.

I would like to make one myself - and back mount is easy to do.
But then there is no easy access to pinpoint / disc.

Working with original coil and shaft is hard on hand and elbow.

Sinisa

I never use pin point on my Excalibur II, I did at first but stopped soon after because it didn't do any better Disc. If i do take up diving or snorkeling I would do the back mount for sure.

Rottonr,

I chest mount my Excal with a 2" nylon belt.

Metal Detecting is my drug of choice.
I get high with two Excalibur ll with 10" slim-line coils, Excalibur 1000 with 10" BBS, Mr. Gold's phones, Plugger carbon fiber shaft, Sov GT with Patrick meter mod & S12 coil and last, but not least a Tesoro Cibola with a11x8 Delta DD coil.
Integrity is what we do when we think no one is looking.

Keep the Excal on the shaft. Mounting it stretches the wires...one of the kellyco guys said 99% of the wire short problems that come in are from guys that mounted the unit...and they recommend that you never do it.

On the beach behind the elbow seems to be the most preferred way. I think its much more comfortable than under the elbow. Under the elbow felt like stock to me. For diving I would have no clue since I don't dive.

It is mounted on the upper shaft. I did replace the lower shaft with an after market shaft the same as biglry shows in his picture.

Seems to me there would only be one practical mount that could be used for all four situations. That would be a over / under Anderson shaft. How could you use a back mount for diving? Where would the tank go? Front or side body mount yourself agreed is not a viable option so this leaves behind the shoulder long shaft or my first suggestion, over / under.
I myself do not dive or snorkel so I prefer behind the shoulder for balance. I know a very well respected pirate that will only use the over / under as he water hunts exclusively and swears with the pod below the water his machine runs quieter and smoother with less effects from RFI & EMI. I also agree with Adam Bomb on the wiring. Good luck to you and wish you well.

My problem is bad elbow and the weight of the Excalibur ...
I have used 1280x Aquanaut for a year now on belt under back an I have no issue with cables and quality.

I don't dive for now I snorkel ... so no tanks.

Do what fits your style then. 1280 x is a monster compared to the Excal. and seems to me the weight disappears in the water. Good luck on whatever you decide.

I did not know that, thank you for the great information. Just recently I quit letting go of my detector to shake my scoop (it also gets my detector arm moving for relief) and letting the head phone wire act as a tether. After 5 years of doing that it dawned on me just how bad of an idea doing that is.

We pay 1500$ for detector which is not build so good.
And must invent ways to lessen the strain on the cables.

There is no easy way to change those.
Where did you buy it?

Chest mount sounds best for your situation....... all the knobs are right there. The deeper you are the more salt and mineral on the hard pan will affect the detector so you need to be able to adjust it properly...... and easily. Under the cuff works well also with the knobs toward you and you dont have all that wire movement that can create a cable break.
