Water rig for $500

I have never water detected, but scuba snorkel spearfish whenever I get the chance
Was thinking that perhaps I'd like to give water detecting a shot ....
I tend to lean towards the Tesoro line, just suits me,... with that being said
For $500 what would you all recommend for a wet weather,/ water rig?
My guess is that 75% of the time it would be used on rainy days, and in fresh water
And 25% saltwater beaches. Thanks in advance.

Tough call as the old pulse vs vlf goes face to face. Both good units with fine attributes and TESORO always rocks my world. John

My advice after using both vlf and pulse is go for a good vlf machine. If you favour fresh water the tesoro tiger shark is a good choice. If you want depth and performance on wet salt sand you're going to have to forget the tesoro and up your budget.

Not only do you need a machine, you need a scoop, booties and wetsuit or waders. The Tiger Shark is great in fresh water. You might need to rethink your use for now and get a machine for fresh water and later a machine for salt water.

I was thinking that I may be asking too
Much out of a $500 machine. I may just do
A Tiger shark so I can get
Some experience in water.... I have read good things about them
They seem to be decent machines...

I have a CZ-21 and a Tiger Shark. I love them both. I have also used a Fisher 1280X. Also a wonderful machine. The main thing about the shark is it does get deep. However you have to listen very carefully to the sounds as some are very weak. The Shark and the 1280X are for fresh water only.

The AT Pro, plus all the above machines would work in fresh water. But what is far more important is where you're going to hunt. If you got places where people have fun, loose Jewelry, coins, and whatever most any water machine has a chance of paying for its keep. Than comes the skill of the hunter.. So shop around, watch a few videos, get a machine made by a reputable company and have some fun.
