Whites Dual Field or Garrett Sea Hunter II

I'm struggling to decide between the Whites Dual Field and Garrett Sea Hunter II for the low tide and shallow salt water.
The Sea hunter seems the more robust of the two, with it's tough construction and isolated battery compartment, but I am wondering if the 8 inch coil is too small for depth and ground coverage compared with the Whites 12 inch?
Also, the Sea Hunter coil and headphones appear to be interchangeable which could be a big advantage.
I will be hunting in a few inches of water and the wet sand of the low tide area.

I would welcome any opinions?

Thanks

For around the same price as a new Whites Dual Field...I'd get a Garrett Sea Hunter II with 2 coil package. The bigger 14" X 10" coil should be similar to the Whites 12" for depth and coverage. Plus you have the option of using the smaller coil in trashy environs.

..but also have a look at the Tesoro Sand Shark.
I just received mine (bought new) and it looks to be a nice quality PI detector. Made in USA, costs less than either the Whites or Garrett and has a lifetime warranty. Just another PI option to consider..

one more wheatie..

As long as your beach is clean of metal the Sand Shark is a great pi detector, but if not, the bottle caps and hair pins will drive you NUTS! You don't mind a little metal digging, hair pins will have a broken sound but so do chains. Also looking at about half the price and lifetime warranty.

I'm going on 7 years with mine with absolutely no problems and when it comes to deep no problem pulling rings out at 12 to 14 inches down, good headphones that are comfortable too.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of the three mentioned. All have pluses and minuses .
Garrett has the ability to change coils and headphones.Small coil works well in water. Separate battery compartment.
Tesoro has best price and lifetime warranty. I own several tesoro detectors and they are a great company to deal with.
Whites surfmaster dual field has a 12 inch coil that works well on wet sand, but the large coil in water causes more drag..
The coil also has a tendency to float in water. I own the dual field and like it a lot,but having a smaller heavier coil in water is a big plus.
I could own any of these and be satisfied. Hope this helps.
