Bahamas Metal Detecting??

I have been to the Bahamas a few times but never to detect. I was wondering ...have any of you pirates ever been there to hunt or know anyone who lives there who might tell me what the story is? I dont even know if the Bahams is detector friendly?? I would have to think getting out in the water in back of some of the more popular destinations would mean treasure....not to mention all the history in and around those areas. I'd love to hear everyones experiences and thoughts on the matter. Thanks -Dig

Spent 5 days on one of the non-tourist islands. Didn't find much. Nobody in customs even bothered to look at the unit. My impression was that nobody cares. That's a pretty laid back culture. You'll see 5-10 people working a grocery store, where in the States there might be 2-3 doing the same thing. They aren't in a hurry about anything. Check with others, but it was absolutely fun to tect in warm water. I waded and used as mask and snorkel with a scoop. I knew there wouldn't be much where I went as it doesn't have the swimming, bathing tourist traffic. Jim

I took my excal. 2 years ago and.......

I went on a cruise on Royal carribian to the Bahamas. I took my excal. and hunted the beaches next to the Atlantis. The water was to rough to hunt the day I was there so I hunted the wet sand, but by 10 oclock to many people on the beach to swing around. All beaches in the Bahamas to the high tide line are public. As per( Basil Rahming Chief superintendent of Police, 2nd I/C Grand bahama & Northern Bahamas.) I was told by a lifeguard I could hunt right behind the Atlantis as long as I didn't go above the high tide line to private property.I also hunted royal Carribians private beach at CoCoa Cay. on our way back to port canaveral. This was march of 2007. Good Luck. HH

Just came from there. Found some crusted quarters, nickles and lots of bottle caps and pull tabs. Everything fairly deep.
