MXT is one of the best all round detectors, it is so good on gold that most don,t like to let it out much so they can find the gold. One of the best in junk places out west.

Howdy Flintstone,
Hmmm? Well, I guess.
But I think its strange.
Ive posted this question ,in 3 places, very popular places.
You are the first post Ive got.
I do believe that if the question was aimed at one of the popular gold only machines ,
I would have gotten some feedback.
Oh , well, I just dont get it.
thanks ,
Dusty

Both my wife and I have MXT's that we use for gold (along with Meteorites) here in Colorado. They work!! We use the Eclipse coil for gold. Hope to hit Montana next summer. My mother in law has some claims up there.

There has been a lot of gold nugget hunting activity on the MXT forum over the years. Some of them has done very well with the MXT. I did a gold nugget search for the MXT forum and got 310 hits. Some good reading there.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

Dusty,

Steve Herschbach on his Alaska forum has had the MXT listed for years in his recommendations of gold detectors.

Hi Dusty,

I have used the MXT for gold prospecting here in Australia. Our ground is extremely mineralised and difficult with any vlf unit. I did find my first nugget with it. It was a 6 grammer at about 4 inches. Excellent detector but doesn't cut the mustard on small stuff. (IE sub grammers ) in mineralised soils.

I have used my MXT for prospecting, in the California Gold Country. After a lot of trial-and-error, and coil purchases, have zero'd in on the 6x10DD as my primary prospecting coil. It seems to handle the strong mineralized ground here the best. I also traded my Infinium in on a TDI Pro. The PI TDI machine works FAR better in the rivers and creek beds where there a lot of hot rocks. Hot rocks are hard on all VLF machines. I run it in Prospecting mode, with the gain down a little and the SAT up high - mostly in HyperSAT. I always ground the MXT and put it in the Lock position. Another option is to put the MXT in Relic mode with the trigger forward and the Dual Control on about 1.5
I hate to use this setting because I'm always afraid I might be passing up some deep targets.
Here's a detailed post on my experience:

Good hunting!!!
