Your opinions of the D2 when used with the DFX appreciated!

I am looking at purchasing the D2 for my DFX but would like honest opinions from users on whether it performs much better than the stock coil. I really dont want or need a smaller coil or larger coil so the D2 seems to be what im looking for in an upgrade.

IMHO your money would be better spent on a SEF 10x12 Butterfly coil or the new Detech 13" Ultimate coil. I had a D2 and didnt like the way it balanced and I never felt it was an outstanding coil. I recently traded it away for a Sun-Ray DX-1 in-line probe which I love. Good luck and HH. Matt

Hi Tammie, I don't know what type of ground you have in NH, but a DD/SEF style coil may not be what you need. These coils work best in very mineralized ground and the concentric coils seem to work better in neutral to low mineralized ground, at least for depth. If you are looking for separation, yes these coils will get the job done but so will a smaller concentric. The DD/SEF coils like the bottlecaps that a concentric does a good job rejecting. DD/SEF coils on the other hand are very good at ground coverage as is a 12" concentric. Also consider a concentric if you are going to do any salt water beach hunting.

Just a word to the wise if you have not done your homework yet on coil selection. Some people hear good things about the DD/SEF coils and then are disappointed with it in their ground. There is not a "best coil" for everyone. I use the SEF coils on all of my detectors and are very pleased with them but my ground is very mineralized.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

I use the D2 most of the time and love it.Our ground reads -80 to -93.The D2 does get very good separation and I have no problem getting great depth in our ground. As Larry said, this coil can be tricky with bottle caps, but anymore I only get fooled ocassionally by them. The only time Ive had EMI problems with this coil is when power lines are very close to the area being detected,in which case I switch to the 6X10.Im still thinking of getting the new Detech coil, but want to hear a few more reviews on it.

Might check the for sale section here at finds forum 4 a coil also. Some good coils cheaper than new.My ground runs fron 83-93 and the 10X12 SEF does very good. A thought and I have a coil listed there. Yazoo

Take into consideration that White's uses the 10" D2 coil as standard equipment on their V3i detector. HH. Matt

I don't know what that has to do with what is the right coil for her Matt......... White's also has the 950 as the stock coil on the VX3. (same detector)

I know some V3i users who replace the D2 with the 950, especially for beach hunting. I'm not against the D2 in any way, I was just pointing out that a concentric coil might be the better choice for her in her ground, but people do things for their own reasons and she was just looking for opinions from users and I is one.

I hear you Larry...thanks. You have taught me so much in the past two years...thank you. I guess my eagerness for detecting and lots of coffee get the better of me sometimes. HH. Matt

Big help guys! now Im going to re-investigate other coils, I was more interested in the fact that a DD coil has a larger search area than a concetric as im used to using a sovereign, i thought the D2 to be a good choice but now......
