Bigfoot Alternatives

Hello All,

With the scarcity of Bigfoot coils out there, does anyone have recommendations for good alternatives to this coil for use with a DFX and any data supporting your opinions? I have been particularly interested in the Razorback Beach Hog.

Thank You,
Dan

If you are going to buy a Razorback, you better have the White's TDI detector to go with it. The last I knew all Razorback coils are for Pulse detectors.

Really are not any good alternatives. I first thought the new BigDawg coils would be replacing them but they got poor reviews. The reviews show they air test like a Tesoro Cleansweep but function poorly in the ground.

I need another coil like that myself. Rather than paying to find out first hand about a BigDawg, I decided the reviewer knew what he was talking about and went looking for another Bigfoot. Found one but it wasn't cheap. But that is ok as I'm paying about the same price as I've sold them for.

Good luck,

Thanks All.

In this case does anyone know of a good source for Bigfoot coils aside from checking Ebay every day?

You can place WTB ads and check the classifieds often is about the only alternative. Even then be prepared to spend close to $300 or more for one, they are in big demand. Also be sure to get the one for the DFX because there are 4 models that I'm aware of, maybe more.

Good call Mike, I tested one of the first BigDawg units on the market and I was so disappointed, that I never released the review.

Larry et al.,

Back at you with another question.

What is the best way to determine if a certain Bigfoot coil will work with a DFX? I am looking at this one: Bigfoot

Seller says it will work MFX, MXT, SN, S2, S3, Pro, and Eagle. I don't think this is compatible with the DFX but I want to make sure.

Thanks,
Dan

Larry,

By the way, what was the problem with the Big Dawg coil? I have seen pretty much all good "reviews" although nothing that really qualifies as a decent test in my opinion, especially as a comparison against the Bigfoot. I would love to see a good depth comparison between the two.

The fact that there is absolutely no ordering information on the Big Dawg website concerns me.

He says it is compatible with the MXT and DFX which is the right one. It would not be be compatible with the others though, they take the Bigfoot for the 6.59 kHz machines.

The BigDawg that I had was very noisy from ground noise which hurt the depth. Air tests were OK but we don't hunt in the air.

Thanks again for the advice. I will keep my eyes open for Bigfoot coils out there.

It seems like such a major hole in the market that I would be very interested in opening one up and seeing what's inside to replicate the design. I just can't imagine winding a coil properly is that difficult.

The winding of the coils is the easy part, it is the nulling or tuning of the coil to reject the mineralization yet accept the targets for a particular frequency that is the hard part.
