What is the advantage of this coil (300 mm) and why? I just traded for a Whites DFX 300. I owned a DFX years ago with the 950 coil so I'm back to what I love and thats White's detectors.

Larger coils cover more ground faster and get a little deeper (generally) at the expense of losing separation and masking smaller targets in ground that is not very "clean".

You have to use what you have but ideally you would have a selection of coils to match the ground you are hunting. A small coil 6" for trashy places, a 950 for general hunting and the 12" (300) for less trashy wide open spaces.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.
