The Safari is rock solid in both wet and dry sand, salt or fresh water. The depth is unbeliveable for a VLF detector. I have used the safari in these situations. I am not familure with the Explorer but I can't see that there would be any difference to the worse.

hunter72, I went to Daytona and Wabasso beach two weeks ago were I found a penny in wet sand at 15'', the Safari was awesome.

I don't like hunting beaches even though I live 100 yards from the Atlantic. That being said I ventured out there at 2 am the other nite after a big storm and the Safari performed outstanding, I only pulled all kinds of clad but I experienced almost zero falsing in the wet sand, depth was very good and the pinpointing was actually easier in sand than on land. I can't vouch for the Explorer as I've never used one.

Thanks everyone for the information regarding the Safari's preformance on the beach. I think I have made my decision.
