As for sensitivity settings I have been mostly running in Auto but are there any suggestions as to different settings i should try and how do i interpret where to not go any higher on the sensitivity. I have heard to make sure the machine is stable...what does that mean exactly??

You usually won't get as much depth in Auto as you will in Manual. Run it up in manual until it begins to become chirpy or unstable. I personally usually run mine at around 17 or 18, but have since found out that it I.D.'s much better when set down around 15, especially on nickels which is right in the middle of the gold range. If looking for deep silver or relics, you might want to run your Safari's sensitivity as high as possible (18-20) without it becoming unstable. You will "know" when it is becoming unstable, as EMI or deep trash (especially iron) will often determine how high you will be able to run your sensitivity.

I have a very irony site that I thought was unworkable with the 11" Pro-Coil. Yesturday I used the Relic mode in High Trash setting and the Sensitivity in low (not Auto). I also lowered the Threshold setting to where I barely hear the hum. Once I find a target, I double check it in Low Trash setting. Sometimes I have put it in the All-Metal mode to track down a good signal that seems to dissappear in the trash. If you only have the Pro Coil this might work for you. I'm still learning what the Safari can do.....so far I like it.

When the Safari becomes unstable, it will become chatty with false chirps. My soil in Indiana is probably comparable to your soil in TN. I run the majority of the time on manual 17 or 18 with no problems. If the site cannot handle that high of sensitivity, I back it down to 15 at the lowest before I switch to auto.
