Are these any good? There is one here locally for sale that is literally brand new, never used. Should I get it?

They were once the best you could get, but that has been a lot of years ago. One just like it with case sold on Ebay for $171. If you want one for collectors value, yes, if you can get it for $100 or less. If you want a detector to hunt with, even the the White's new Coinmaster would probably be a better choice.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

This is an excellent machine.
Not just from a collectors stance, very versatile and capable.
Like all detectors, "Learn the machine" and you will do quite well.
There are newer machines, but I have found this machine can keep up with them.
Even better then some of them.
If the price is right, buy it.
PM me if you have any questions.

that was the second whites i ever bought. way back in the 70,s i think. i found a ton of money with it and even a diamond ring. i didnt use it much from 80,s till last year but everytime i did i had no problem finding money. i used again when i sent the v3 in for the update and it worked well.. once you figured the meter out it was pretty solid. but as far as a primary detector i think id get 1 of the newer ones. theyve definitely come along ways. i know people with the prizms finding lots of stuff and they wont break you. good luck

This machine was bought in March of 1985 from a place in Wisconsin. It was shipped c.o.d. and was only used once. It is literally brand spanking new.

I have seen two other detectorists over the years that swear by them. I am going to make a run to pick this up tomorrow. The price is right also. Seems to be a well made rig.

I purchased one in the early 80's. Used it for a good 20 years. The only bad thing about them is you need Popeye forearms
to swing one all day! That being said, they are sweet detectors. I believe the meter is even better than some of the newer machines.
If it locks on, it's deadly accurate.. I've got a 10'' coil that i believe will fit it. I'd be willing to give it to you should you decide to purchase it.
All you need is to pay for shipping.

Rock solid old detector. After umpteen years I still use mine for the parks and gardens n school grounds.
Very accurate target ID and a good All Metal GB mode and it also target IDs in the GB All Metal mode. Might not go as deep as some of todays machines but is not far behind. You will have a lot of hassle free fun with this machine.

Cheers,
Adrian SS

the 6000 di did a great job for me . my wife bought it for me . it was a used detector . but it loved coins and bullets , i also found 3 cw buckles with it . i did find it to be a heavy machine . i liked to spend most of the day detecting . after a few hours it felt like tennis elbow set in , i really think you will like it though. happy huntin ...

got mine used several years ago. found a lot of silver but found more in the same spots with the cz-5 and then the minelab sovereign. still a great machine.
