I thought id see if my bluemax deepscan 950 from my 6000 di pro would fit my mxt pro....sooo i went to take my stock 12" off my mxt and...well...i thought you could unscrew it from the coil...so i did..unscrew it....the cable twisted right off....theres another 250.00 down the toilet...and i started to loosen up the 950 coil so dont know if it will work..or if it does work if i can use it on my mxt pro...i think my heads gonna pop off any second

Sorry. Coils from the two machines are not cross-compatable (different frequencies). As far as the twisted-off connector goes, Whites can probably make a repair for a lot less than replacement cost. Give 'em a call and ask.

Well...looks like im buying three coils then..any suggestions for mid size coil for mxt? the 950 deepscan on my 6000di pro always worked real well. i just hope they still sell them

You're not the first .... 12" coil for MXT = $100

Steve, believe me, you're not the first person to twist the wrong nut on a search coil. It's happened with any brand, but I am sorry it happened to you. If you do start searching for a new 12" coil, let me know ( monte@ahrps.org ) as I have a friend who has a brand new 12" coil still in the plastic packaging, unused, and he's asking $100 for it.

As you might now know, the answer is 'No', the Blue Max 950 off your 6.59 kHz 6000 Di Pro is not compatible with the ±14 kHz MXT.

As for search coil selections, I like the 12" coil for coverage in larger, more open areas when looking for an assortment of targets, such as old railroad locks, but also smaller targets like coins.

The 950 and 12" coils I usually like to use for plowed fields and the beach.

On the XLT, XL Pro and 5900/6000 Di Pro SL models my favorite search coil is something like the thin-profile Royal 800. The 8" coils balance better and can hunt coin-size, button-size and bullet-size targets as well, or better, than the 950 and 12". I keep a Royal 800 mounted on my XLT all the time.

If hunting trashier sites, brushier sites, places with building rubble, or picking on playgrounds with metal structures, then I am ready with my #1 favorite White's coil for 'general use', and that is one of the 6½" coils. For the 6000 Di Pro and XL Pro and XLT, it is usually my 5.3 BullsEye. While I like ti and it works fine, I prefer to use the smaller-size coils in trashier sites, and that also means using a slower-sweep, quicker-response detector, so my 6½" coil is mounted on my similar frequency IDX Pro. I can switch it if necessary, but the 8" on the XLT and XL Pro works great.

On the M6 and MXT models, which ARE slow-motion type detectors, I use the 6½" coil about 95% of the time, and for those models it is called the 5.3 Eclipse.

All of these coils have one thing in common .... they screw on and off with the connector on the far end of the coil cable. :beers: (Root Beer Floats for cheers as I don't drink that strong stuff.)

Monte

PS: I think some of the early era 'Oooops!' with the coil connectors was also due to so quite a few early detector designs being made with coils and cables that plugged in to each other. Many old D-Tex units and other offerings did that, but most have been made like those we are using today.

Sorry you had that unfortunate accident. Monte's coil offer is a great deal. I would jump on it if your going to go with a 12" coil again.

It was a great price for a brand new 12" coil, too.

Monte's giving you good advice on the 5.3 for smaller coil. You'll get decent depth from it and definitely better separation in the trashy areas. The 6X10 is pretty good for the same use and the 4X6 is great in really heavy trash, but lacks coverage and depth compared to the other two.

Nope...Coils ONLY unscrew from the end that plugs into the detector, unless it is hardwired, then you do not unscrew...
