Eagle II SL. Battery life?

How long with 4 c-cells last if I turn it on and just use it full time?

How much longer if I use it with headphones?

Trying to determine if I need to buy rechargeables...

My other machine has run for over a year on 2 9-volts, but it isn't nearly as powerful and big as this one.

I usually made it to between 8 and 10 hours. Maybe the batteries are better now than back in 1989, and 90 ...

Battery longevity is highly affected by the number and depth of targets the coil is responding too. More targets/stronger target responses, more power drain. Different headphones have varying levels of power draw. Battery longevity is a very individual thing. Calculate total hours you detect in month, divided by hours of usage you get from disposable set of batteries and multiply by cost of a set. That will get you monthly cost.
Rehargeables have a total life span of about 1 to 1.5 yrs in my experience. Sometimes less, sometimes more. The biggest factor to determine time between recharging is the mAh rating of a battery. The higher it is, the longer a charge lasts. Go to Amazon and look up type of battery you need if you want to read real world user reviews of a particular rechargeable battery.

OK, I got a ballpark from this answer. I have only used the machine about 30 minutes (it kept dying on me, battery box contacts ended up being the culprit).

But I bought a 20-pak of batteries not knowing how fast I would go through them. I now know that was probably overkill, and expect to at least get 2 or 3 decent trips before needing to replace them.

Thanks!

I use rechargeable in my Eagle II SL, and get about 12 to 14 hours. The more you pinpoint the more power it will use. If you get use to the detector you can do this faster. I love my Eagle, I have 5 other detectors but i like using the Eagle the best just heave for very long hunts.

I modified my White's Eagle 2 SL to run on four double A's. I use rechargeable and they last longer than C batteries. It also makes it a little lighter. Easy to do. Pick up a four double A battery holder from radio shack and connect two wires and you're done. You have to take the cover off to do this.
