That's right! This MX sport is to sensitive, I'm just sick of diging hot rocks, bottle caps , and tiny junk. Even if you turn sensitive all the way down it still has 4 inches depth. Its making me a nervous wreck! I even bought a small coil ,. I'm going back to my A T pro and not looking back again. I'm going to buy their hat , and everything to show my support , has MX sport fans ever used AT pro ? Its clear as a bell, and let's you know its a bottle cap! And VID. Numbers right on , and if you want greater depth just buy a bigger coil like the hover boys . my wife is not happy with you whites , she's tired of buying different detectors just to find out they all suck ! Compared to AT pro . that's my review , gramps

I love mt MX Sport and MX5. I've not only used an AT Pro, close friend and I have tested them side by side while hunting in the field. He'll be up grading soon as his tax return comes in. There will be a good used AT Pro on the forum for sale soon. Let me no Not Happy if you post the MX sport for sale. My hunting buddy is looking for a good used one, he'll even take the 7 inch coil.

I have seen hundreds if not a thousand wannabes like you over the years Gramps. You give a new detector a couple of weeks use on a limited knowledge base and because you can not learn how to use the detector in two weeks, you trash it. It is no wonder you are not a happy man. If you would have invested a couple hundred hours in the MXS, your "review" would carry some credence.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

WOW! I guess your name says it all! Too bad. It's a good thing the Sport is so sensitive, even at 0 sens. Try turning up the disc. some. Those bottle caps fool everyone. I've seen bunches of trash digs, including bottle caps, with the AT PRO. So, if you're a TRUE digger, THAT'S all part of the game, no matter what detector is used. Sounds like you're more of a " cherry picker". Good luck with the AT PRO, a good detector also.

If your at pro is so fantastic, why did you want to try something new in the first place. After all,its as clear as a bell with spot on vid and can discrim a bottle cap all day long.

To try to put this is in a neutral light....I believe this is a common thing with a machine that's new to someone,in that there is a learning curve to varying degrees, depending on how complicated the machine is,or seems to be. I went through the same thing with my Explorer. Keep in mind that for the most part, with similar sized coils, machines of any kind can do a lot of the same things. What differs, sometimes greatly,is HOW they convey information, and how the operator interprets it. VLF machines with a 10" coil in decent ground will generally see an 8" quarter, but beyond that, things get blurry for some. A lot of it is in the settings,a lot is in what the operator had before, and if they are expecting the new machine to be like the old one, except "better". It just takes time for the operator to become accustomed to what the machine is saying,so it's best to start small and work your way up,especially regarding sensitivity and discrimination. Running the "pro's" settings right off the bat can make for a really miserable experience, and the machine won't get a fair shake.
There aren't any shortcuts, the time(in some cases,a few hundred hours) must be put in to learn what the new machine does well and what it does not. If that kind of time cannot be invested then the point is lost, along with perhaps an opportunity to have a really good machine you can understand.

Yeah, check everything. I was quite miffed with my MX5 and sorry I got it- until I discovered when the manual says give the battery door a good bump it means it. The ID was jumping all over the place, noisy audio, terribly erratic. I got so disgusted I slammed the back of the detector with my palm and it became quieter than ever before.:ranting:! I'm not gonna list the other things I tried. I found out from other posters who discovered this by sending it back and Whites telling them the battery box wasn't secure.

Making a post like that on a whites forum is gonna draw some negative feedback, whites users are diehards. Lol. My time with the sport goes like this. I bought it for civil war hunting in Maryland, in huge fields. It finds stuff deep, real deep, but it is sensitive, and small junk will be dug. But to be honest, other than being water proof, I think my mxt pro will hang in there with it. So I sold my sport. That sport is just to heavy, for the 8-10 hour hunts we do. Especially with the ultimate coil. And I guarantee I put 200 hours on it last year, but it's still to difficult to know what your digging. It's gonna be a great machine for jewelry hunters, but for cherry picking, I don't think so. That machine is far from a home run. Whites really need to trim at least a pound off there machines. I did well with it, in the absence of a lot of trash, didn't do so well, in heavy non ferrous trash. But whites to me are still the best period, it may not be the machine for you, it wasn't for me either, but it doesn't mean it's a piece of junk. Whites has many other machines, try some.

If you are going to leave a negative review at least give some clear reasons why you don't like what you are reviewing. Complaining about sensitivity is weird because the AT Pro is very sensitive as well and picks up tiny junk. This review annoys me and I don't even use an MX Sport.

Although I'm now happy with the MX5, I went thru the same thing with the Ace 250. Paid for itself several times because I mastered it while others complained. Still use it- still happy with it.

Don't blame the machine

Don't blame the machine for your own ignorance of NOT knowing how to use it. The MX Sport happens to have one of the better ID meters on the current market.
