MX Sport loves bottle caps  Also 9.5" coil thoughts?

Any help with bottle caps on the MXS? Depending on rust content of bottle cap, I get anywhere from zinc penny up to quarter readings for them. I have used other machines in the past that came with DD coils and those just had an inherent difficulty with bottle caps(hello Fisher DD) but wanted input from other users regarding the pesky bottle caps. I've also considered going with the 9.5" Sport concentric coil as that coil type on my old M6 was reliable with properly id'ing bottle caps. Anyone try that coil yet and can give feedback?

I can add some support to your inclinations - the 950 will help you deal with the caps and in general provides a more accurate target ID than the DD.

Double D's do great in harsh ground but the tradeoff is that they are less accurate than concentrics, both in pinpointing and target id.

Thanks for your reply tboykin; I've always been a fan of that 950 coil on other whites machines and had positive inclination to believe it might be a winner on the MX Sport.

My solution was to sell my sport and continue with my mxt pro, with every coil known to man. I think it's a good machine, I'm not bashing it, but it just wasn't for me. I mostly civil war and I found it difficult amongst large iron and nails that consistently rang up as a high tone with vdi's north of 60. Maybe it was me, maybe not. As far as bottle caps, lol, my bottle cap recovery went up dramatically. Just my opinion.

T2SE, G2+, Mxt All Pro, A.T. Pro, A.T. Gold, TRX pinpointer, Garrett A.T. pinpointer, and a lot of determination......

I have lived my life very low key. I never get mad or bent out of shape. However, today, after digging my 3rd bottle cap, at 8 inches in muddy clay, I said the sh*t word. To be truthful, I said "sh*t sh*t".
I'm okay now.

The mxs can hit targets at depth with a fairly slow sweep speed. The technique I use to edge the side and tip of the coil around a target, that way the iron tone frome the bottle cap is audible. If I hear iron then I go over the target and lift the coil. If the the tid jumps, bottle cap. If the tid locks on it may be a cohabited target in iron. Hope this helelps.

You can try burying a bottle cap and a quarter in a test garden type environment. See what each does and more importantly, listen to what each does.
This video MAY help you with bottle caps or other junk...https://youtu.be/AhzylWtgYNI

Don't have a sport yet, but modern bottle caps are a real bear to deal with IMHO

I used an explorer and Excalibur on the beach for years and seems older caps were not an issue.

Fast forward and it seems they changed the composition of caps and they started fooling the ferrous tones and sounded really good.

I don't get out much anymore but think they don't rust like they used to?

Sure some of the coin hunters have mastered them, hope to try a sport and give some feedback?

Nice looking machine

"I'm really liking the Rutus Alter 71 as best teccie ever for easy recognition of both new AND rusty bottle caps!
Really Low TID's and a 'splodging' of the 'ID Graph"

Bottle caps are proving to be a pain in the backside for me. But I notice the vdi jumping around a bit on bottle caps

"I LIKE that video! VERY WELL done!
During my test time with the MX Sport, I used and liked the 'REJECT VOLUME' and could see the potential.

There's just one teeny weeny problem with what is portrayed in the video. Where there's one 'bottle cap' there's two or three and up to six (6-pack)
And, when the coil is backed off and drawn back as portrayed in the video then another target gets heard and that muddies the water's!
That was my problem gripe with the MXS as that sort of scenario lead to some very confusing tones!

'jtalley007', said it right: "seems they've changed the composition of bottle caps!" Yes, they did and, they've become 'coin like' more than ever!"

One thing I've noticed is that for me, when in four tone it's a lot easier to get fooled. Try the eight tone if you haven't already, it seems to throw a lot more description into the difference between a bottlecap and a coin. GL and HH!

On a positive note, to begin with, the 950 concentric coil fixed my bottle cap problem altogether and they no longer ring up as coins. On the downside, took the MX out this morning in the lake and it drowned! I just packed it up and sent it off to Whites for repair. Really disappointed in this Whites product now.
