Today's hunt with the 5.3 test coil

Not a whole lot, but managed a few keepers minus the junk. The spot I hunted was absolutely loaded with iron and lucky to get these tidbits! Looks like a coverall button with a locomotive on the front, pieces of thin brass that I spent at least a half an hour to recover. Looks like a jigsaw puzzle. The key hole piece is brass attached to some iron, which was next to the thin brass. Not shown is a horseshoe and a few other iron objects. Not bad for the first hunt with this coil. Thanks for looking.

How did the keyhole piece report/read on the mxs? I'm really interested in how the 5.3 will do on mixed metal objects like like buttons. Great digs, keep us posted! HH

Thanks, I actually found the keyhole piece while using the pinpointer. I was still pulling pieces of the small brass out of the dirt pile and happened across that. It wasn't deep at all. The hand digger popped it right out. The overall button has a tiny piece of iron on it and the 5.3 didn't seem to pick up on it, just the button. There is still lots to hunt and the woods are getting thick so I probably won't be going back anytime soon. If I get an opportunity to hunt some wide open spaces, I'll be using the coil again and report the finds.

I have owned a 5.3 coil on my DFX for possibly 10 years,i do occasionally use it on trashy roman sites and it does work reasonably well but always drift back again too my T2 with the deadly and deep 5'' coil, can only think of this 5'' as a laser beam, albeit its slightly small dia than the 5.3 coil but i feel its certainly deeper.Have found 3 lovely celtic gold staters with the T2/5'' coil combination but non at all with the 5.3 one. Please note i am not knocking the Whites coil in anyway but the T2 5'' finds speak volumes in my mind.

Occasionally i use a 5.3 coil on my IDX Pro as that i feel is a better combination than the DFX in trashy ground,i do like using the IDX with the 950 coil on some sites, when used with a slow methodical swing speed the IDX is deadly, just love that old Whites machine its a pure joy to use.

Well done on the interesting finds.

I had the 5" coil for the T2 and used it in the same spot. Didn't do too well. I traded it for the Nel Sharpshooter coil.

The small dd coils are great for what they do, I have a detector that has one permanently attached. No doubt that the dd will report targets that the concentric will miss but a small concentric will do better in other situations, that's why I like to have both, and more than one detector. Different horses for different courses!

I totally agree with you, that is why i have specific detector/coil setups for almost all detecting scenarios, prehaps i have far more coils and detectors than need be,but the main thing is i enjoy using them all  the biggest problem is the storage of them all

Testing the coil for Whites. I think there are a few others who received a coil too.

I had 5.3 eclipse on a DFX that pulled a lot of Barber dimes out of a Park I used to hunt regular. Like I said in a previous post it could split hairs with the Numbers. If I got a 80-81 it was a Silver Dime ever time.

We sent a few out for testing. Besides those few people we haven't had many requests for us to build them.

Absolutely agreed Mega...the IDXPro is PURE JOY to use. It's accurate, fast and running wide open the depth is excellent. I'll pick off 8-9" dimes on a regular basis,as long as I put the coil over them. Although I've gravitated toward another machine for other reasons, if I could only keep ONE machine,it would be the IDXPro. Simply because I know it SO well. There's a reason people "who know" have a Classic series in their collection....flat out UNBELIEVABLE hunting in junk.

Well darn. If you ever decided to do a limited run or happen to have any "extra" test coils around that you'd be willing to sell, let me know.
