Just acquired an Eagle 2 sl black box off of feebay, I have had a couple of the blue box eagles a while back and I was wondering if there is a difference in performance.I really had a lot of fun with the earlier eagles.

Lucky you.One of my all time favorite Whites machines. Simple answer..Yes..More features and better operation with the Black Box Eagle II.. It's not by chance the Eagle II SL 90 is it..
It is a very capable detector.

I had a Eagle 11 sl 89, I though it was a little better than the 90. I have the Whites 90 now and still use it. I have some top of the line detectors but after I hunt with them I can go back with the Eagle and find coins and rings that the other missed. I will never sell this one, I sold my 89 and can't find them anymore, It may have been the same but it just seam to do better. You will have fun with yours. Take it back to where you have hunted before and see if you still find things, need to go slow with it, give it a chance to lock on the target. If it don't lock on target, there is something else in the hole with it. Good luck

Not sure what year it is but I'm looking forward to use it, I really liked the blue box ones I had. I also have a Deus which i really enjoy, It will be interesting to see if the Deus missed anything. How do I find out what year it was made?

I believe the first Eagle II SL came out in late 1988 to 1989. It's functions were identical to the blue box Eagle II,but it had a 'signal balance' knob located on the front of the control box. Also the decal to the right of the hand grip was the same as the blue box. The Eagle II SL 90 had more pre set programs and 'U1 & U2'(meaning User) marked on the decal. Plus you can tell on the bottom of the control box. The Eagle II SL had a 2 inch gap in the silk screen instructions situated on the lower half as opposed to the Eagle II SL 90/90.5 which was fully populated with silkscreen lettering.

From what I remember, it was the best detector they ever made as far as target ID. I had xlt detectors and they would not lock on over a few inches, the eagle had top notch ID at depth.

I was just lazy and never mastered the scrolling through menus to get the advanced operating modes.

I knew guys that probably to this day they would not trade for a V3i costing $1500.00

Recovery could be adjusted for iron sites and signal balance would make it punch down deep.

I remember it took the relic hunters here in VA by storm, it opened up all the old sites

Enjoy it

I bought one from Centreville Electronics back in 89. I was looking at a Fisher also but the Eagle won out. I can't begin to say how many civil war relics it found for me...not to mention the silver coins. I miss that detector.

I was out with it today, I was tinkering with settings, I think I got it dialed in okay. I found a wheat at about 8 inches, I wasn't out very long but I was impressed with that, it locked right on the coin and I pulled out a good sized bent nail along with it.
