Does the QXT give you a high tone alert on targets below 5 inches? or just a iron like grunt.

I would think it'll give a high tone. I picked up a QXT recently, but i'm still learning it myself.
Check out this youtube video on a Quantum II.

Yeah I watched that one, seems like it does ok on the deeper ones but I have had some issues with deeper targets not giving me the high tone and I wanted to see if someone who has used the QXT a lot to give some input on the subject.

I have come to the conclusion that most single frequency multi tone units will drop to a lower tone due to signal strength loss on the deeper targets. I don't know how the newer units cope, but based my knowledge on the older analog units. Such as the Compass Coin Scanner Pro series and Big Bud Pro multi tone units.

Use 'Mixed-Mode' Audio and 'Noise Reduction' OFF. This might help in your situation on the deeper targets.

The Q series was never a deep seeking unit by today's standards. However it can size a target and cherry pick through trash with the best of them!
