Old Church site Finds

Got out with the 2500 to hunt this old church site out in the sticks, didn't expect to find much but when I got to the side of what must have been an area they used I found a bunch of pennies, some wheat , a small ring, some kind of ladies ornament and this Wyoming token.
Not sure what this token was made for, maybe some of you fellows might know, or when it was issued.
Gonna go back and work another area of it as I was expecting some "old coins", but didn't hit on it this time.
Most of this stuff was only about 3-5" down.

Are there some older coins in that batch? I see some corroded pennies there. Nice looking ring too!

Nice haul bud. You probably found where they held their socials, rummage and bake sales, etc. If you find the spot where they had the most traffic you may find those oldies. But remember, back in those days people had little money to lose and coins were like our bills today and were carried in a coin purse and a penny bought a lot. The average annual wage back in the 1800's was about $400. Even further on during the Great Depression people worked for fifty cents to a dollar a day and were tickled to get it. My mother worked in a hotel then twelve hours a day, seven days a week, for $7.00 - just what our rent was for one month. My how times have changed.

Hey Bill,
Your right about back in those days and not everyone had a lot, thanks for the extra info on it also.
I do plan to go back and work the other section I did not get to yet, its kinda grown up, this place is not been used in a while.

John,
I was quite surprised myself, this stuff was all in one small area like someone just dumped it there.
There were some wheats in there, and what really threw me was the corroded later date pennies from the 1960's. I was also surprised by the ring, but it cleaned up nice.
going back to work another section of it, gotta be some older coins, I would think at least some Indian Heads, and maybe a silver piece, will see when I go back.

I found a couple of those state tokens in Pontiac Michigan. I believe they were given out at gas stations around the country. still always neat to find them. H.H.

Thanks Tom!

Yeah there might be a few goodies hidden away there. Good luck. How old is the site?

Its in the late 1800's, not been used in a long time from what I am told. I am beginning to think that since I found some 60's coins someone might have just camped out there and used the site. That happens to places around here, and kid's use places like that to spend a night etc, the lack of "no" pull tabs is extremely strange to me, I'll see what the other part of the area yeilds as soon as I can.
