1266x vs 1270 which one is the deepest?

Hey all I am using the 1266x and was considering buying a 1270 I have found tons of relics with the 1266 but also have found tons of junk iron! What are the settings you use while relic hunting and do they seem to work against junk iron? Also is the 1270 as deep as the 1266 I see they have different frequencies does this matter on depth? And does the iron reject mode work? Should I buy the 1270 or not what is your opinion? When coin hunting at tot lots I use a Tesoro Vaquero discrimination and quietness is nice and I seem to find coins better with it! But the depth isn't as good as the 1266! Pretty well my 1266 is used for relic hunting and at old homesites where old coins could be lurking at deep depths! I am thinking of buying the 12" hothead coil or 10 1/2" fisher coil which would you reccomend? And if any of you have one you would be willing to part with let me know!! Thanks

well i've had the 1270 and i love it pretty much like your 1266 but your 1266 runs at 4.8khz while the 1270 runs at 8.2khz now the 1266 is a real good finder for silver the 1270 would be little better on gold and it is deep runs in 3 different modes and i've owned a vaquero loved that machine too, but old silver stay with your lower freq machines the vaquero's i had loved bullets and would gettem deep too but the 1270 in highly mineralized ground runs really stable and to me i found the balance to be really good, one of the deepest machines i've owned but my bulgarian rg 1000 vista is my dream machine now this machine runs like a 1270 but with a few extra horses under the hood and dual toned!

So it sounds like you have had pretty good luck with the 1270 I work in highly mineralized soil here in Georgia so the 1270 should run a little more stable! That's a good thing is the ground balance is to set? With the Vaquero it's pretty easy.

I am not a relic hunter, I am pretty much coins and jewelry and I have both the 1266x and the 1270. But for what I do and where I am located, I would say the 1270 will get better depth than the 1266x.

I use a 1266X also for relic hunting.. It's very tough to eliminate some of the iron and some foil for that matter(it's hard not to dig them.. don't want to miss a button). Times like that is when I wished it had a meter on it. I haven't used a 1270 yet hopefully I'll get to try one. As for the coil, I'd go with the 10 1/2". I just traded for one here recently and have had good luck with it. I'm not a hot head coil fan. I got one with a package with a detector purchase back in the 80's.. to my experience, they don't perform as well as the OEM coils... others may have had better results

As best as I can tell we have 3 for the 1270 and 1 for the 1266x and one that liked the 1266x but never used the 1270.

So do we want to call it or do a re-count?

Seems to me that both these machines are well thought of, I like both and would like to keep and use both, but really can't find a need or use for the 1266x. At one time I had a 1265x and had a small 3 3/4" coil and was doing pretty good working the curbs here in town. I was getting a lot of nickels, dimes and for sure pennies, (all small coins).

well other than hunting for strictly silver or back up relic hunting, the actual ideal freq for silver is 2.76 khz and some odd numbers i beleive, saw it some where on oen of these forums

For depth 1270 with the 10.5 will blow the 1266 away it will go really deep especially on relics. All metals for relics with high enough volume to give a slight threshold audio with as high as you can SEN without chatter will get you way down. It like using an old VLF detector like fisher 555-D, the slightest tone change means there is something down there, you'll find stuff every one else missed. believe me "Been There".

I tried Hotheads and never saw any benefits in them, had a couple and got rid of them couldn't see much increased depth also the 1270 10.5 coil can be use on the 1265X and the 1266X and they work awesome on them, 2 hints on the 10.5 large, sallow targets when pinpointing get really loud raise the coil about 3's and P/P again and if you buy the 10.5 get it with the 7 foot cable because if you hip mount any 1200 series the cable will not be long enough. my 1270 is hip or chest mount and my first coil was a 3' cable had to use my 555-D hip mount cable which are hard to find now.

Just to make things difficult I will cast a vote for 1270 followed by 1236X2 and will remain neutral on 1266 seeing how I never tried one .:csflag: a rebel in every crowd ! LOL

I never owned the 1270x, but have owned almost all the other 1200x series detectors and have dug some deep targets with them all. I do know that adding a depthmaster to a 1266x will increase depth by at least 2 inches, maybe more depending on the target etc. I do prefer the 1266x for the balance
it has.....it just feels like an extension of your arm and doesn't wear you out after several hours hunting. The 1270x maya be deeper but the 1266x will give it a run for the money in an experienced operators hands.
