I was a good distance from home and noticed 7 people sitting around talking with their detectors by their sides. All Minelab and I just had to stop and chat. Are you a Minelab user I was asked and said no, Fisher user. One rude as hole said, Fisher never made a machine that could match a Minelab for depth and handling of bad ground. They all laughed and I bid them good day......:argue:

The least you could have done is toss out a handfull of pennys for them to find. maybe they were sitting around talking because they were too exhausted from swinging heavy coil? Or maybe you could have said, "Well, this fisher just found 7 goldbricks" Its easy to think of good comebacks after the fact!
Some other detectorists are just great to meet, some arn't, but good of you to say hello anyway.

Detecting is the study of Humans interaction with topography, the untrustworthyness of pockets, and metals desire to return to the earth from whence it came.

Sounds like the liars club that meets everyday at a local restraint around here. Those guys probably meet there 2 or 3 times a week and tell each other how much they have spent on their detectors and when the donuts are gone they put their detectors in their Cadillacs and go home all tied and hungry. Forget they need to brag about there finds for the day to the wife, look honey I got 37 cents today and they were all over 12" deep, now you know if I had one of those cheap detectors I wouldn't have found half as much. While I take a nap would you clean these coins for me.

Some people are just snobs and you did the right thing, just walk away.

Measure the length of your probe. 90% of targets you will dig are from surface to the tip of your probe. There is only one factor to consider, how well does your machine and you handle the hot ground. Maybe 1 or 2 Minelabs go deeper, but I do not want to walk at a snails pace to find that 10% other machines can't hit...That is my thought and I am sticking with it.:detecting::cheers::fisher:

More coins have been found with 1200 series fishers than all Minelabs ever made.I run a Minelab Safari now and is great detector but I remember having over 11 dollar face value day in silver with 1265 and finding some to 7 inches with concentric coil. The fishers are better at gold and find toys and other plated stuff better. They hunt all weekend to find 7 silver coins they do not realize the Fishers,Whites,Garrett's already harvested 90 percent of coin crop before Minelab was a wet dream on paper. When I want to have some fun I like taking out my 555 fisher I remember finding 7 silver halves in one day in Troy Grove,IL.That new Garrett is killing Minelabs sales at 1/4 cost capable of 90 percent depth of FBS detectors and water proof, finds gold a lot better.
