IIBa, Poor--Good--Better?

In your opinion, is the IIba better than the II-B?

Define "better."

By "better" I mean easier than the II-B to ground adjust to maximum depth.

I mean, is it easier to use than the II-B and at the same time get the same depth as a properily adjusted II-B?

Does the IIba really eliminate the need for those R/C controls and yet get II-B depth?

What do you say?

I guess it has to be easier but everywhere I've found the II-B to be capable of more depth and better discrimination but then I don't worry re metal I.D. All I want to lose is small iron. Everything else in Europe has to be considered as good and has to be dug.

For many who don't want to spend a little time getting to grips with the coil balance then the Ba has to be a better choice even if the depth was well down.

Question is why haven't Nautilus modified the Ba, as some private users have done, so you have the auto coil balance plus the full range sensitivity controls ?

Being a businessman I always think with a business mind. Business is all about profits because without them there is no business. Contrary to what most seem to think, the profit motive is not always a bad thing. In business one must use ones head and not do things that undermine the business. Thus we have cheap inkjet printers and expensive inkjet cartridges. The money has to come from somewhere. My guess is this; with a II-B and a IIBa you have two potential sales but with a combo unit you have only one potential sale. Since these machines last about forever, one needs as many potential sales as possible or the business goes bye-bye. Actually this practice is seen throughout the entire metal detector industry. Most could put everything they have into one model but that would spell financial ruin. The main cost to make a detector is the housing, controls, and search coil. Such things as auto ground balance, tones, other gimmicks, etc., are relatively cheap to include (thinking of non-Nautilus brands). But it is by these "gimmicks" that many firms stay in business. Consider all the metal detector companies that have gone broke and one sees that it's not a simple business.

yeah,,brian,,,aint thats the truth,,,i use the simple 2ba,,,its still awesome,, and deeper than anything that i have used in thirty years,,,the thing is with these machines ,,or the benefit ,,is depth ,(better than anything,,honest ) ,,plus its the only machine that after in my case only a few weeks familiarity ,,it tells me there is deep iron in the hole ,,,nothing i have used in the past ,,can do this ,,it really is that good,,i now dont dig any more than a little iron,,and even then i reckon i knew what was there ,,,but just dug it anyway,,,cant believe this machine is so good,,,it really is entertaining,,great discrim at depth,,,finds tiny silver and gold stuff the others find difficult,,,and to make the point,,it has a higher find rate by 3 times that my other machines had in the same period,,i believe the others,,,just either could not find the target ,i.e. not as deep ,or disced them out as bad targets,,,well,, thats what i think,,,there is no other explanation i can come up with,,love this machine,,,p.s.,,does anyone have the e-mail contact for nautilus please,,,rgds ,,:ukflag:
