Has any fellow forum members any idea as to what the disc is in the photo.
It is made from brass and was found on one of our local beaches.
Looks like it comes off a control of some kind.

Part of a timming disc looks notched in different timed segments
Where it fits on is a big question mark ?

It is a timing wheel for an hourly clock chime mechanism. There is a lever that rides on the outer edge of the disk and allows the chime to continue sounding, once it drops down into the notch the chime stops. The notches are spaced further apart to allow for an additional strike each hour of the day. There are only eleven raised bits because one o'clock is where the large notch is.

Thanks, it always amazes me what is washed up on our beaches.
There are about 6000 ship wrecks around Cornwall alone so you never know what is going to be washed in.

Kool!

I counter the gaps and the teeth and only get 11, is that correct for a clock part?

Just a thought. The other reasoning seems sound to me.
