Dug in a old CW camp. Is this some kind of Frame Buckle? It is the right size if it where flat-en out, but I can not find a picture of the same one.

If it were clock parts, it would have multiple holes for gears and mounts. If it were a Georgia frame buckle, it would have teeth and an offset center. It seems to be very thin and obviously pliable. It could be the back of a fancy 19th century photo frame.

The brass on this is very tough. I try boiling it to get it back into shape. It would not move. It is some kind of buckle, but I cannot find a picture of one just like it. If it were flatten out it would be the size of a frame buckle????

If it where a belt buckle I think it would be a womans belt and might have been wrapped in fabric or leather. It looks to thin for a mans belt.

It looks like it is stamped out of copper sheet. Early buckles, before say 1850, where cast out of copper alloy or brass and would tend to crack rather than bend up like that.

Boiling copper? Never heard of that one. Using pliers to gently unfold it, after wrapping the jaws of the plies in electric tape first and then placing it between 2 pieces of wood in a vice might straighten it out some. You want to avoid cracking it or scratching it IMHO. I have straighten bend silver coins that way with some luck.
