Large round ball?

Found this yesterday. It seems to be made of copper or brass. As you can see from the pics it is pretty big and weighs at least 10 lbs. It is not perfectly round.

Shot puts can weigh 8lbs on up. :shrug:



Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

I was thinking about that but I also thought maybe they would be more perfectly round. But I don't know.

Brass and copper are pretty soft and often abused by kids playing with them. Most likely to be brass. Milling balls are very hard and keep their shape and canon balls are often cast iron.

When the US was fighting Mexico in the 1840's it was noted that the Mexican army was casting cannon balls from copper. The reason being...Mexico didn't have much in the form of iron deposits but had a lot of copper as a by-product from the silver mines. I wonder if Spain and France ever made cannon balls out of copper :shrug: Good luck on your ID!
