Mixed-Mode Audio Question

I have had my xlt for about 5 years now and I have never used mixed-mode. I am wondering if anybody has any experience with it or what settings I should use to utilized mixed-mode. I have heard mixed-mode will get you added depth but takes getting used to. Thanks for the input.

You're right...

You will get a little more depth and it does take getting used to. The important things to remember are that "Silent Search" must be off and "Audio Disc" has to be on. Mixed mode is hard to use in very high trash areas.

I have used mixed mode many times with the xlt and i can tell you that you can expect to gain approx 2-3 inches extra depth by using mixed mode, i found that the best depth was obtained by swinging the coil very fast and listening for a nice high tone that repeats from 2 angles of sweep direction, I HAVE FOUND SMALL COINS AT 9 INCHES DEEP WITH MIXED MODE ON....... for even greater depth swing slowly and dig all the low tones - many targets will be trash but i have dug coins at almost a foot deep using this method!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

What you've heard on added depth is certainly true, been using Mixed Mode since the early 90's. A great way to get started is in its simplest form in the "Relic Mode", to start learning some of its characteristics. In its simplest form, its Dual Tone, the rejected targets (Iron/Ferrous) are Low toned, and the Accepted targets (Coins,Brass,Silver /Non Ferrous) are High toned. After all these years, this is still The MM method I prefer and after some good practice with it you'll know if you'll want to tweak or not. For example I here some use Tone ID with MM, way to busy for me being every VDI # has its own tone, totaling 190 tones.... very busy. You'll figure it out, not difficult at all, and good luck.
