Is the XLT a good gold/silver ring producer or it better just for coins? I have a chance to buy a used one and just wondered how good of a machine it really is... Thanks ahead of time for any help on this....

The XLT is great on jewelry, especially rings.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

like any machine, you need to learn it's sounds on what targets in your area. it's not an easy machine to find. that is the E series. that tells me it's a great machine. i've had mine for only two years.

I've had mine for less than a year and have had success on the beach with it even though most agree it is not in its element there. I recommend making a test garden to help you learn the sounds of good and bad low tones since that's where the gold is.

Been detecting 35 years. Had about 50 detectors. Have several now. After trying many so called top of the line detectors, The XLT is still my favorite.....Jack

the therory is the lower the khz the better for silver. the higher the khz the better for gold. the XLT has a great track record for all around use. most targets are with-in the 6"-9" depth range of the average XLT hunter. depends on the coil of course. one of the drawbacks of the XLT is it's lack of coil selection. but some of that is hype. as stated most targets are with-in range. there are machines with more coils thus deeper hunting but the XLT is good enough for the general hunt. if you get the 5.3 you'll be set understanding you have the 950 coil with the machine already. the 8" royal 800 coil is a real good middle of the range coil if you can get it. don't know of anyone being sorry or regretting the purchase of a XLT.
