Questions about the XL 1 probe

I have aquired a very good used Sun Ray Probe serial number 672 that was used on an XLT E series metal detector. I bought it to put on my Quantum XT Pro. I was curious and hooked it up for a very short time on my MXT and it did work. If I remember correctly the E series XLT coils were compatible with the MXT, M6 and DFX the times the XLT e Series was in production before the V rated coils came into play. What would happen if I put this probe on my MXT to use on it regularly? After all it is the machine that makes the frequency and not the coil isn't it? Thanks in advanced, Tim

The XLT is a 6.59 KHz detector and the MXT is 15 KHz, the coils are not made to be interchangeable. The XL-1 may work on a MXT but it probably does not work as well as the DX-1 that is tuned for the MXT. I doubt any harm would be done to the MXT from using it but I would get a DX-1 for use with the MXT.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

Your probably right about it not being any harm but on the other hand if the ohm resistance is not the same then it could fry a circuit inside the detector. I guess I had better be safe than sorry. Thanks for the input, Tim
