1 watt, given a good antenna and the right atmospheric conditions will reach a satellite in space. 1 watt may not seem like much but it's coverage is further than you may believe. And CB's are limited to 4 watts AM and 12 watts PEP

RULE 10 - Power Output

{A} Your CB station transmitter power output must not exceed the following values under any conditions:

AM [Amplitude Modulation] - 4 watts carrier power [CP]
SSB [Single Side-Band] - 12 watts peak envelope power [PEP]
{B} If you need more information about the power rule, see Part 95/SubpartE. {C} Use of a transmitter which has carrier [CP] or peak envelope power [PEP] in excess of that authorized voids your authority to operate the station.

Thanx Butch. I used to know that cb stuff but it's been like 25 years since i used one. What would the power co's use for an antenna ? Can it be the power lines themselves ? :shrug:N/T

Nope, in this instance the antenna is imbeded into the meter. The freq range is probably 2.5 or 5 Ghz so the antenna is not all that big.N/T

They are installing smart meters in our hometown now for water. Saying it is mandatory. I DECLINED BEFORE I SAW THIS. They need a search warrant to come in my home. I am holding out as long as I can.
