New coil ?

Hi gang

I am thinking about adding a new coil to my 705. I have the stock coil and the 6" MF. I find that I don't use the 6" as much as I thought I would. That being said I am wondering about another coil. I do mostly park, tot lot, occasional cellar hole and a couple of old homes type of hunting. I am in NH and I tend to get #'s in the low single digits for GB most of the time.

Would I benefit with a DD coil or maybe the WOT ?

If what I have is appropriate, I'd rather not spend the $ just to spend. I would rather spend it on new headphones.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Bill

With your ground phase reading, I think you'd benefit by using DD coils.

I use to live in a area to where I got ground phase/ground balance numbers in the single to teens and I bought the 10.5 DD 7.5 coil and that's when the old coins started to pop out of the ground. I never use the Con coil now.

I've had my 705 for a couple of years now and I am still wrestling with which signals to dig or ignore. I have read Diggers book and it seems to me I need to dig everything including neg tid's. I was hoping a new coil might give me some motivation, lol. Too bad there aren't more good videos out there that show the bouncy signals and how to decipher them. I will check out the MF DD coil, might be the ticket ?

For celler holes and tot-lots, that 6" is the hot ticket. Around cellar holes, it will get into and between tight places, and won't snag on every brushy little stickup the way an open coil does. Being waterproof is a plus in it's favor too.

Beyond that, as Randy has often said, a DD coil will always perform better in mineralized soil conditions. So especially if you're looking for a bigger coil you want a DD, because a concentric will see more of the minerals and as result won't see much past them.

So, to help me understand this right, if I am getting GB #'s usually in the low single digits, does this mean I have low or high minerlaized soil ? Sorry to sound like an ignoramus. Still trying to understand all of this.

The lower your Ground Phase # the higher the mineralization.

Bil since your in a area that has higher mineralization I think a DD coil will help you out a lot but your numbers will still jump a round a some.... it's the tones that make me decide if I am going to dig or not. I watch the numbers some but it's all in the tones for me. Sunday I was at a old school / park now and this place has been hard hit. I found a Merc, Rosie, Buff and 9 wheat's and everyone of those coins the numbers were jumping all over the place but the tones were some what good and that's the only reason why I found those coins going by the tones and not the numbers.

The 10.5 DD coil my friend is what you need. If your hunting coins, go with the MF, if your hunting for gold, go with the HF.
With that being said, I have the HF and the coins jump out of the ground. Either way you will be happy.

Happy hunting...............

Longhair thanks for the info on the ground balance numbers. My At Pro balanced in the 70-85 range where i live. My 705 is in the high 30s and 40s. Iwas thinking of getting a dd coil.Would you think it would be wise to get one. I had dd on my Pro and on my Ace 250. I feel i did better on my 250 with the dd off a 350. Bottle caps galore with the dd coils though.

I got this from digger. If your groundbalance numbers are below 28, then yes a DD coil would help tremendously in
that mineralized soil. If GB is above 28, then stay with concentric because it will give better TID and pinpointing.
Hope that helps.

In addition, the concentric sees deeeper, but does require more overlap to get the most out of it due to the shape of the detection field. If depth is the issue, then deffinately stick with the concentric in soil as mild as yours. If target separation is your issue, then a small coil and/or DD is in order.
