I found this key date dime today at about 2 inches deep. I didn't realize how precious of a coin I had acquired until I got home and washed it off to see the date. Too bad it gained a few scratches during retrieval, but it's still in pretty good shape!

Thanks for the replies! I was wondering if anyone knows how much it costs and where to send a coin to have it graded?

I sent one of my 1877 IH cents to PCGS. It cost me about $80.00 The second one was sent to NCG and cost about $65.00. I didn't send the third one in because I already knew it was authentic. And being buried copper, neither would assign a grade on the previous two as they consider Patina to be corrosion. They should be able to assign a grade to your silver. And I would guess the cost would be about the same as I indicated.
There are other grading companies out there..... but these two have much higher reputations than the others. If you ever decide to sell it, that reputation goes a long ways with the prospective buyers.

If there is a coin shop in your area, they can help you out. I drove about 90 miles to the nearest coin shop to have mine sent in. HH Randy

Thanks Randy. I think it will be worth the cost. After all, I probably won't get the chance to find another. I'm interested in knowing the value as well as preserving it.

That's a RARE one indeed...........too bad about the scratches (but we've all done it - seems to never happen on a zincoln).........still has a lot of value to it!
