Minelab X-TERRA Forum

Combines are getting ready to roll and harvest will soon be in full swing. I don't know about the rest of you folks, but I can hardly wait to get the X-TERRA into some of those old home sites that I didn't get to last spring. As I've said many times, there simply isn't a better detector than the X-TERRA, for the type of hunting I enjoy. Lightweight, well balanced, excellent depth of detection and super sensitive to the good stuff. Parks and yards are good places to pass time during the summer months. But give me the wide open spaces with abandoned homesites and an occassional fair ground, and I'm in seventh heaven! Got my maps ready and already secured permission for more than a dozen places. I'm getting excited just thinking about it! HH Randy

Just thinking today about how much easier it may be in some fields. The drought has done so much damage to the corn crop, that a lot of farmers around here aren't even going to combine any, they're chopping it. That means no discarded shocks.

I recently discovered a field nearby that had an old church standing on it next to a still active cemetary. There was an old school on the other side of the cemetary, but it was consumed by the need for more space to plant people. Anyway, I found out who owns the dirt, and I plan to pursue it very soon, as it was planted in wheat that's already been taken off.

I hear ya! I already have some areas ready for my 70! It has gotten awful dry again here, so those old homesites are gonna get hammered when it's time! Don't have to worry about those brown spots in someones yard! Good Luck to all! HH

Are you gonna be taking the 3030 with? Curious as to whether or not you have a new favorite.

Yep I noticed that the bean fields have turned color this week and it will only be a lil bit of time before I am back in the fields. The seed company's have started taking out the corn last weekend so I need to check on some of those fields,

In farm fields or around farmsteads, nothing I've used can beat the depth, separation, discrimination and stability of the X-TERRA. It is well balanced and easy to manuver. The CTX 3030 is awesome for seeing through the trash in parks and yards, and for hunting in the water. But for sites where the ground has been broken, I'm using my X-TERRA. HH Randy

Just told my wife the same thing as we were driving by some of the local fields, hope within a week or two many in my area should be harvested.

Good luck and cannot wait to see some farm finds. Just curious to which coil you guys run relic and coins in the field? 3khz?

That's the plan. Low frequency penetrates the ground better and hits high conductors best. And a concentric coil gets better depth at the center in mild ground than a DD (all else being equal). as well as looking at a wider path @ shallower depths than a DD.

I agree there is one certain field that I'v pulled some of my best finds from it's in beans right now so probably be towards the end of September or the first of November before I can hit it again.
