Administrator's comment....................I edited your subject line and removed the link and video in your post. The ONLY manufacturer authorized to produce coils for the X-TERRA, other than Minelab, is Coiltek. There are others, as you pointed out. But if your detector is damaged from using one of them, the warranty is void. Besides that..... I have ZERO regard for any company who pirates another company's patented technology. JMHO

X-TERRA Coil Compatibility

As part of ongoing product improvements to our X-TERRA series of ADVENTURE detectors, Minelab has recently updated our VFLEX technology with improved coil-to-detector digital communications protocols.

All genuine Minelab X-TERRA coils and authorised Coiltek X-TERRA coils are fully compatible with all X-TERRA detectors. Any other third party brand non-authorised coils that may function with older X-TERRA detectors may not work at all with the latest X-TERRA detectors. This will result in a CE error message appearing on the X-TERRA display, indicating that the coil is not communicating with the control box.

Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact your regional Minelab office.

welll i read it before and read it again and no where did it say id be subject to judgement for asking a question about unauthorized coils..... im not promoting but ive seen plenty of posts about other models and expieriences and was just curios to if anyone managed to get ahold of this particular Large DD 3khz coil...

if no one responds to this topic in a day or 2 or if it hits a nerve that bad delete it.. i dont care to that extent.

With regard to the unmentionable coils being discused here , if Coiltech made coils that i wanted i would buy them but as they dont i will be buying 2 of the unmentionable coils as soon as possible.

I have also been told that the coils have been upgraded so they will be able to fit new Terra's , in future if coiltech make coils that are for me then i will buy them but i need a waterproof elyptical 2 DD coil that i can use in water which is deep and hard wearing . Concentric coils are no good to me and the 7.5 x 5 in is not for me either and not waterproof , the large 15 in ? is to big .
The stock 10.5 DD coil either the 7.5 and the 18 khts are the only good coils in my opinion for the Terra that can be put on this forum and they are not waterproof either so unfortunately i have no choice but to buy the unmentionable coils .

Come on Minelab make a Pro coil for the Terra and maybe a elyptical version too.

The unmentionable coils would not sell if there was not a demand for the type !

Let me start out by saying that nobody, and I mean NOBODY wants or has wanted a 3kHz DD of any size more than Randy and I. In the past I've even said that I didn't care whether it was authorized or not, I'd be on it like stink. There is even a multi-page thread on this forum where everyone that has wished for one voiced their desire. Links to that thread were sent directly to MineLab just to be sure that they had some idea of the demand for such a product. However.....

Since that time, I've done a bit of information gathering on said company, and concluded that there are reasons beyond the piracy to avoid that manufacturer's Xterra line of products.

I have no doubt that our requests have been heard by MineLab, and also understand that they have been busy with a couple other things in the interum. So I'll wait a while longer before I throw money, caution, and legallity to the wind. A little patience goes a long way, and I believe that there is honest hope on the horizon. For now I'll keep my hard earned cash in my pocket, and I'll have faith that in the not too distant future I'll be rewarded with a coil from either MineLab or Coiltek that I can purchase with complete confidence.

Personally, I have no dog in the hunt. But I respect Findmall's position of not allowing posts regarding products being offered by companies who do not help sponsor this forum and they are in direct competition with products that are offered by dealers and companies who make this forum possible. You indicate you've read plenty of posts about other models and experiences, but you apparently missed those posts where this subject has been thoroughly discussed. Many times I've posted that discussion of this particular coil manufacturer will not be allowed. As I said, I don't personally have a financial stake in any of the products available. But I do take great offense toward companies who pirate another company's patented products, with total disregard for the law. And if for no other reason, mention of those coils will not be allowed on this forum as long as I volunteer to help out here. Maybe they work and maybe they don't. Frankly I don't care. They are not being made legally. And that simply goes against my principles. JMHO HH Randy

I think also there will be a new Terra range in the next year or so , so new coils may come then . Thats my feeling , wasn't far out with the CTX either.

3khz coils are hard to find, I'd love to be able to buy a 6" and a 10" DD coil for my X-Terra 705, but until Minelab makes them I have to make do with what I have, these being the 7.5 and 18.75kHz coils.

As for a new X-Terra line, there is not much more they can do with the line, it's at it's peek. The only request I have is if they can make a new housing for the electronics to make it waterproof, and a more robust screen, it's a little flimsy and mine has a scratch in it.

I would imagine the Terra brand is the next for the upgrade. I am buying an extra 705 tomorrow because of the capability of it on my local beach ,and i want a backup in case my older one goes wrong at the wrong time. And i will be buying a *$£" coil too , no choice is the Minelab coils are not the right ones for the job.
Hope the new Terra when it comes has a slightly elyptical pro type coil 12 x 10 will do for a starters.

I have 2 of the namelss coils.Bought both the ellipts. The small one and the larger one.I hate round coils, but needed coils that are waterproof.
I would rather buy minelab coils but no choice.

Read on treasurenet that coiltek was going to make the other 2 frequencies for the 15' DD dont know how credible he is but it seems logical.

the unauthorized coils that are being made though are air testing at oustanding distances though it seems like the pirating company can utilize the tech or maybe "push it more" then the creator can laughably.

i feel im at a slight advantage watching these foreiegn videos since alot of them are from Poland neighboring the country they are made in i can actually understand what the users are trying to clarify. on a side note there is quite a large minelab following in Poland so for many being in the EU its simple traveling around there.

Be forewarned. If the machine that you buy was produced since the first of the year, the unauthorized coils will not work. MineLab changed the firmware to combat piracy.

Afraid they will have to do it again , as the N*** have caught up and are producing coils that work on the new post April machines and also work on the old ones too.
