Hey all, i am new to this MDing and I am using a 505. My question is: when i am trying to silence my ground balance up and down on wet sand, it will not get quiet. Am i doing something wrong? I am using it on All Metal. Thanks Steve.

If it is salt water it will not get quiet unless you take sensitivity way down. Xterras like fresh water but not salt.

Thank you Chris for your quick response. Yes, it was salt water. I just cound understamd why it worked on dry sand but not wet. Your answer helped alot. Happy Hunting Steve.

Wet sand is conductive, and it'll see the wet sand as a big target. A VLF needs a very broad range of ground balance to cancel out the wet sand. This is what the 705's beach GB mode is.
Your best bet is to minimise the salt response by a combination of the following:

1. Reduced Sensitivity
2. A bit more disctrimination
3. Keep your coil off the deck
4. The 10.5" DD particularly in HF will also help
