Detecting under power and phone lines.

I have a While XL Pro, which works great 99.9% of the time. However, whenever I get near a low hanging power line it will start acting up. Is there a different coil to deal with this interference? I like to detect around old homes, which is where I have this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

You can go look for a "Eliminator" coil by Applied Creativity Inc. These were sold by Jimmy Sierra some while back. The one I have is 6", and it can hunt under metal abjects. It's shielded enough to offer good protection under power lines. I"m guessing, but the price of these coils used are probably in the $150. range.

You could try a small Whites coil, as it has a smaller foot print, and would not respond to interference as much a larger coil. The little DD shooter coil Whites has for the XL would help also.

Hi CC

My first question is what coil are you using? Are you ground balancing away from the power lines? These are to be considered if you are looking to for a solution. I have owned the 6000 Pro XL for a couple of years and I have experienced what you are talking about. Maybe your signal ballance setting is too high. I only get the signal ballance setting high enough to where it is stable and still be able to get a good ground balance, then when you are done GB'ing...... lock the GB in. The 5.3 Bullseye or BlackMax coil are my favorite coil for the 5900/6000 whites machines, and you can run more signal balance (gain) with these coils.

Bought one of those coils in the summer Mr. Bill off the forum around 100.00 if I remember will work well around fences & bleachers.

Have not noticed interference with my XL Pro but I mostly use the bullseye coil. Dan

I have used the Eliminator coil for a long time, it is one of my favorite coils...it will handle much higher sensitivity than other coils.. and for a 6 inch coil it has remarkable depth..On my XLT, I crank up the AC sensitivity to 77-80, ..this along with some other minor adjustments. make this coil a deep silver finder...and power lines are not much of a problem with this coil ..As I understand it when you toggle to the all metal mode only the bottom half of the coil works and the top half acts as a shield against the power interference from the power lines....I recommend you get one if you can find one...I have seen some go on EBAY for less than $50.00. the market price was around $159.00...and there are some websites in Austrailia selling these things for $342.00...I just recently went to a well hunted park...really well hunted...you could see evidence of many tufts of grass and dirt disturbed where others had been...I was there for about 2 hours and found 20 dimes, 12 quarters, 4 nickels, and a slew of pennies...and the area I searched might have been 150x200 feet.. I didn't find those elusive rings or other jewelry, but I had fun.. the coins I found appeared to have been in the ground for a long time, I don't know why other detectorists didn't find them...I am going back tomorrow to go over another section of the park..
